In many ways i'm disappointed but in others relieved.

Whilst it would have been very exciting to see what Henry could do, we all know deep down that this wasn't the right time to make that appointment.  It tells me that our new owners are sensible and pragmatic - they probably did want Henry but weighed up the situation and decided sticking with Bruce for now was the best option.  Dr Xia did the opposite and went out and got his glamour name straight away, without proper consideration -  think that tells you all you need to know about how different these new guys are.

I'm more concerned about how we're going to tackle FFP.  If we manage to somehow keep Jack and Chester, then add some decent loans then i'll be over the moon.

So I take it you wanted Xia to keep the caretaker manager who got us relegated, cant even remember his name. Eric Black or something?

Di Matteo had 4 years as a manager, hardly a glamour name but he took MK Dons to the play offs in his first year and got WBA promoted automatically during his only 4 years of management -  Thats a pretty good record. Furthermore he was only given 11 games bedding in period, 6 of those games were against teams that either got promoted, finished in the play offs or in the top 11 it was a better record than what Bruce had after the following transfer window thats for sure.

It’s the most sensible decision considering how close the new season is.

however, Bruce has the sword of Damocles hanging over him. He knows we must get off to a positive start or he’ll get the chop.

My understanding is....It was not just the results that lost him his job.

I cannot add to that, but that's what I heard.

We only know the half of it.

you don't build businesses without it.....but they will look carefully at the incremental results.

Yeah, absolutely. I'm sure they'll be keeping a close eye on things and will expect the best. I'm just relieved they haven't got stars in their eyes and gone down the big name route really. I think they know what they're doing.

Meh, there's no real ambition or plan then, at least not from the outset, you know precisely what you're going to get with Bruce, football that's out of date and someone who doesn't exactly build foundations for the future, and that's exactly what we need in terms of transfer business and our football philosophy. Extremely underwhelming that Bruce is staying.

My reaction entirely. I’ve been feeling rather gloomy for the past week as the momentum for Henry has built up. It looked like these guys had an eye for the flashy gesture without much depth of analysis.

However, it all turned out to be bollocks and they have taken the only sensible option realistically available to them. Phew.

Now, appoint a new top management structure, do some proper analysis of the club’s long term strategy and potential, ease Dr Charlatan out of the club and we will be ready to go places next season.

Agreed. Well said.

Typical bloody Bruce signing, at his age Damocles is going have no sell-on value.

I'd still prefer him to Micah Richards

Limited he maybe but he's the best manager we've had for years.

Bruce or henry?...shouldn't even need answering

Best manager in the worst league we've been in for many years is hardly a ringing endorsement of someone

He's staying. Fine, I can see the sense in it. However, the pressure is really on now. No more excuses and statements about "hysterical" fans.

Oh, and the press need to stop going on about how it's the right decision because he's a promotion specialist. It just makes the pain of last season hurt that bit more.

No I certainly didn't want Eric Black to remain, but I did think that at the time we could have made a more considered choice.

And I do think RDM was a glamour name in the context of where we were.

Should've been much higher with that squad. Imagine how many more games we'd have won if we attacked more often. People are overestimating our performances due to our results.

"Football experts", I'm alright thanks. Micky Gray, Jim White blah blah. These people he feeds stories to are not going to ever criticise him.

so how do you know?....that had we attacked more, we could have conceded more.

look we all like to see champagne football......The Harlem Globe trotters are my favourite basket ball team......Jimmy White is my favourite snooker player and Barcelona is the team I look up to.

Now back down to earth.....Cardiff did not surprise me that they gained promotion, why......They drove the initiative, they were durable and hard to beat, they had pace and drive, they had muscle in key area's, they competed fiercely in every game.....was they technically the best in the division ..NO.

I am not asking for my team to play like that.....but teams that do, will cause us problems.

Whatever style we choose to play, it has to be effective.....that is the key.

Perfect for Bruce too, he already convinced fans the squad wasn't good enough last year, because we sold players we didn't need and he bought a team with the money, so he will love knowing he has a ready made excuse this season for his second failure in two years (not getting promoted this year).

Yawn.

The fact that the new owners have stuck with Steve Bruce gives me more faith in them already. It's a sensible choice right now and sensible is what we need. Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris seem like smart businessmen who aren't going to make rash decisions.

I'm happy now we can concentrate on the future and give Bruce the full support.

Right decision. I think he'll surprise a few of you this season. Glad he's here and he's got my full support. UTV

As i have said previously i would have liked a change. That has not happened so yes, i will support him.

However i am intrigued as to why you think he will surprise us this season?

New open style of play?

He will sign players and actually play them?

He wont make substitutions in the 67th minute and play 4 forwards?

He will play some of the youngsters?

I, like all Villa supporters hope he succeeds, of course i do, but i cant see him surprising me with any of the above when he has not done anything different in all of his management career.

Agreed - but unfortunately (on here at least) it won’t happen. As soon as we hit a run of no winning in 3 games, the usual suspects will be out in force.
