I was of the exact same opinion right up until the Slovakia game. He may not be the player he used to be, some would say he was never world class in his heyday, but he is still much better than Jordan Henderson and Jack Wilshere imo. But if you've created a system to shoe horn him in - taking him out means you don't have to keep it so JH & JW don't have to be like for like replacements.
