Sobering watch. Seeing the red dot lining up on the one guy is completely surreal. Thankfully the video cut away.

Just another handful of people dead or with lives ruined because some words removed love guns.

So a guy with known and previously treated mental health issues loses a video game match, goes and gets his guns from his car, walks back in and murders the guy who beat him in the tournament plus another competitor and injures another 11

So, ban video games?

EA have cancelled further planned events too. I'm conflicted about this as I can understand their decision given that the NRA etc have probably already had a strategy meeting to figure out how to point the finger at video games corrupting our yoof!

The NRA and its supporters have rightfully pointed out that the real issue is mental health, not guns.  Therefore, I am fully expecting that any day now the NRA and its supporters will:

1.  Come out in strong support of health insurance for all that includes full mental health benefits so that people will have an opportunity to treat their illness before they get to the point of wanting to kill a bunch of people.

2.  Support and fund campaigns to eliminate the stigma associated with mental health issues so that even the most macho (and most likely gun owners) will not hesitate to admit their problems and seek treatment without fearing for any repercussions, particularly as related to their perceived manhood.

3.  Support the notion of "the government" having the power to judge certain people psychologically unfit to be trusted with guns and take said guns away from them- or better yet, lock them up in mental institutions- so that the rest of the responsible gun owners may continue to enjoy unrestricted access to any kind of gun they want and the right to carry them openly or concealed wherever they want.  Criteria for being disqualified to own a gun will include an unhealthy (in the opinion of the government) obsession with guns, aggressive behavior toward people who disagree with them, and publicly expressed desires to use guns to physically harm public figures.  The fact that these criteria would disarm or lock up Ted Nugent will not bother them, because mental health is the real issue and the NRA really are committed to curbing gun violence without infringing the rights of the vast majority of gun owners who are responsible in safe in their use of firearms.

I'm really optimistic that our gun violence problem will soon be solved by the NRA and the world will finally see that easy access to guns and the ability to carry where we wish is not only not a problem but a great benefit to society.  Are you all as excited as I am about the impending end to mass shootings?

Really lucky escape in Cincinnati with "only" 3 dead.

https://www.freep.com/story/news/nation/2018/09/06/cincinnati-shooting-multiple-people-shot-downtown-building/1210512002/

"A gunman carrying hundreds of rounds of ammunition opened fire in a downtown office building Thursday, killing three people and wounding at least two more before he was fatally shot by cops."

Gunman kills 5 before killing himself in Southeast Bakersfield, third-deadliest shooting this year

Officials with the Kern County Sheriff's Department said that 6 people are dead including the shooter in a shooting spree On Wednesday evening.

At about 5:20 p.m. a man arrived at the trucking business behind Bear Mountain Sports with his wife.

Sheriff Donny Youngblood said that he then shot a man at the trucking business before shooting and killing his wife.

Following the shooting, he then chased a person who witnessed the shooting to the front of Bear Mountain Sports where he shot and killed the witness, Youngblood said.

The man then fled the area to Breckenridge Road where he confronted two people at a home and fatally shot them. He left the home and then hijacked a nearby vehicle with a woman and child inside at Fillmore Avenue. The woman and child made it out safely and were able to escape from the vehicle, Youngblood said.

The man then drove to Edison Highway where he was confronted by a deputy.

When confronted, he turned the gun on himself and killed himself.

In all, five victims and one suspect are dead.

During the press conference following the shooting, KCSO Sheriff Donny Youngblood referred to the incident as a new normal.

Sheriff Youngblood also said that the officer who confronted the suspect was wearing a body camera, however officials have not seen the footage as of yet.

According to Gun Violence Archive, this would be the third-deadliest shooting in the U.S. this year behind Parkland and the shooting at Santa Fe High School.

Early reports.

Quote

Krystal Watson, 33, said her husband, Eric, works at the facility and told her that the suspect had been arguing with somebody else after a “town hall meeting”.

“And she went off,” she said.

Watson said her husband told her the shooting started in a break room.

“She didn’t have a particular target. She was just shooting,” Watson said as she drove away from a fire station where relatives tried to reunite with loved ones. “She didn’t aim. She just shot,” Watson said...

...Carre said the man told him the shooter “just came in in a bad mood this morning. He said she’s usually nice. But today, I guess it wasn’t her day. She just came in to pick a fight with someone.

“She pulled out a gun and she just started shooting at her co-workers.”

In most countries, she would have made some snarky comments and pissed a few people off.  In the US, her freedom to possess lethal weapons enables her to express her irritation through guns, which results in death.  And people defend that.

What a mad, screwed up place it must be.

I've never been there, never will, and dont regret my decision for a moment.
