I have watched this game. Looks very good from what I have seen.

Just watching him closely in that game... he will fit in here.. in a team with 30% possession!

His passing looks pretty poor. He has good strength and height. Good in the air and gives a way a few free kicks. Some good tackles as well. Good pace but he seemed.. well not lazy but very casual in his play. I guess tries to avoid lunging in etc.

Lets not expect the world of the poor guy.. i think he may need time to settle into the pace of the Premier League. Makoun got hung out to dry pretty quickly as did Berson in a similar position. Hope we give him time and dont expect him to light the premier league on fire or anything.

I was listening to talksport earlier and they had a Spanish football expert on (supposedly) and he said he isnt the best on the ball and will never advance past the halfway line but does all the ugly jobs well and also mentioned him winning his personal duel with Messi in a game which was well highlighted at the time. I just hope he will thrive in England and take control of the many battles we will face this season . But I can see people being subdued after a few appearances because of how excited we all seem to be. We definitely need a specialist DM but if he starts poorly and we lose games looking as shite as we did last season then we all might be guilty of blind faith here

If the signing goes through, I wonder how much of a draw Roy Keane would be in attracting a rock-like midfielder like this. And if this is the missing piece of a puzzle, you would wonder if appointing RK was partly midfielder-bait!?

He prolly dont know who RK is

yeah he certainly wont be noticeable. Doesnt mean he wont be doing his job. For me.. as long as he protects the back four. Cleans up for the rest and gives Delph and Westwood to the ball and allows them to go forward. Thats job done.

Even if he starts really, really well the issue is that a lot of people don't seem to have the faintest clue what a good DM performance actually is. He'll get slated for contributing nothing, for only passing sideways and for holding the play up regardless

Not sure why you think that, he was singled out often during the World Cup for playing that role well so people obviously notice it. You'll always get the bellends who don't know what they're talking about but if he breaks up the play, protects the back four and passes it to another claret and blue shirt (except when we're playing West Ham away, of course) then we should all be very happy.

He is a completely different player than those two. He is not about finesse and doesnt try to be cute. He is fast, physical, and has four lungs.

I hope folks dont get confused thinking weve signed James or Cuadrado here - this is the guy who does the dirty work so you can afford to play with a pure 10 like James in a WC.

He has done well against Messi on several occasions. Tends to have his best games when asked to mark an opponent off the field. I dont know of his speaking English, but he picked up french fast, hopefully wont be an issue.

Haha near had you though didn't I? It's that easy to get everyone wobbling it's untrue.

Good one, you had me worried. Relieved you was just kiding though. Now looking forward to seeing who we move for next.

I think its a bit much to claim that if people who don't think he does well early on are knobheads who know nothing or don't understand the role a DM plays.

Hopefully he's good enough for this level and provides some much needed protection for our back 4. Hopefully he allows us to be more solid so that we don't have to rely on hoof ball, counter attacking tactics.

Excited to see him play and what he can offer us.

The thing is, he will be replacing Westwood or KEA in the side, presumably, who often spend a lot of their time passing the ball 5 yards to Delph or 15 yards back to the defenders.

So, as long as Sanchez can do that, we'll hopefully notice his defensive duties as the main improvement to our side. (... Hopefully!)

This.

At this stage all we need is what we've been crying out for, an enforcer.

We have people like Westwood who have played deep and can bring the ball out of defence/midfield. But they haven't been great at breaking up play and getting stuck in.

Hopefully Sanchez will do that. Leave the going forward to Delph and whoever else plays in the (presumably) midfield 3.

We'll worry about getting the next Yaya Toure when we're good enough to stay in the league.
