I was thinking of another left back we were chasing around the same time as Bennett. He played for Ipswich but can't remember his name, whoever he is we probably couldn't afford him anyway. villan501 Posted August 1, 2014 Share Posted August 1, 2014 Lerner knows very well we need quality in side and ive said it before and ill say it now he is taking a massive gamble on the clubs future wigan got caught out and were no different he either spends or we will struggle again untill we get relegated which could be in the next few seasons. jacketspuds Posted August 1, 2014 Share Posted August 1, 2014 (edited) Connor Wickham is out of contract next summer. Would be better than what we have here and could be relatively cheap. Saying that Ings at Burnley only has one year left on his deal as well. Bent is going to go next summer at the latest, and I wouldn't be surprised if Benteke does as well so we might as well look to replace them now if we can get good players in whose contracts are running down. The only stumbling block is the lack of transfer funds but Lerner may have a change of heart soon. EDIT - Wickham is better than anyone who is actually fit enough to play for the next 6 months. Not really sure how I feel about that one as I've not seen him play for years, but at the 3 million mentioned I would have snapper their arm off a couple of years ago.
