The issue with the Holt signing is not so much with GH himself, but more to do with the sequence of unveiling. Whilst we're uncertain of how much we have to spend, unveiling GH as the first signing is always going to be a bad PR move. Had we signed and shown off a couple of other players first I believe the many of us would see the reasoning in bringing Holt in.
