I’d agree they seem very similar, big problem for Archer is that Watkins never seems to get injured and is the fittest player at the club. That said if we do manage to get into Europe there will be plenty of games to go around. Key point for Archer and the rest of the kids will be if they can sufficiently impress in pre season because as he keeps telling us our Unai is very demanding!

MOMS made a good point that part of the clubs perceived necessity for these rises is to keep up revenue wise with the top clubs. Of course many of those revenues are being inflated by Saudi/Abu Dhabi nation states, so average fans are facing the real cost of the inflation their money is bringing into the game. PL is doing everything it can to avoid an independent regulator in the game but all of us fans should do all we can to insist on it for many reasons but this is another to throw on the pile.

First half our best player by a distance. Second half we fell apart as a team for 20/25 mins and then improved after the changes.

Agreed had to basically win every game to have any chance of CL. With Liverpool and Fulham winning our best chance now is finishing above Spurs. So I’m keeping everything crossed for a Geordie win now.

Would be fascinating to watch a team run purely on fan sentiment. Could be a revolutionary new approach that these American money men love. Players subbed after crowd groans with misplaced pass. New contracts after encouraging sub appearances.

No, I was discussing this with a mate the other day. The most Villa thing we can do is finish the season strong, make Europe. Sign 3 world class players in the summer and spend next season fighting relegation. Im with you though in the impending sense this can’t last forever. But absolutely Unai will have them as prepared and motivated as it’s possible to be. The juxtaposition of my experience of supporting Villa and my experience of Villa under Unai create maximal cognitive dissonance at this point in time. I basically have no idea what to expect each week and we just win.

Brighton are in fabulous form but we’ve got to play them and Liverpool so it’s in our hands. For me though it’s Spurs and Brentford that are our main competitors for Europe right now.

Agree with most of that. Except for bit about Bailey not being good enough at this level. He clearly has talent but not the self belief/confidence. We've seen how different players can look once they find their mojo. Whether Bailey will ever find that in PL and whether he has a place in this team next season is another question. I just hesitate to right players off given events of last few months.

Yeah be interesting if Philogene gets a look in too. Just go big big on 2/3 players. If we are in Europe will need some kind of squad to rotate though. So limited for options right now.

The sample size is very small but he played the Kamara role perfectly today.

Ollie has been a run away MOTM and I think deservedly so. I voted for Ollie but thought long and hard about him or Moreno for my vote. But the VT vote is a funny thing because genuinely every single player could have been MOTM today. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a Villa game where that’s been the case. And I’ve seen a few!

He did so much running his legs were gone with 20 mins to go but he still managed to positively effect the game. He gave every single thing he had today and then quite a lot more as well. He was a hero today but just one amongst 11.

Thought he was genuinely outstanding today. For a man that hasn’t played since November and been injured to boot I wondered whether he’d last the pace given how fast we started but he was just terrific the whole game. Don’t remember him losing the ball. Said before the game that this was a massive test for him whether he could be a part of this squad moving forward but he passed it with flying colours.

I know! She’s desperate to go again but I’ve been going for 30yrs and that’s one of the best 90mins performances I’ve seen from us. Next game is sure to be a disappointment for her!

I LOVE how that one game meant so much to you that you still put so much of your life into this club 24 years later. I took my daughters best friend to the game today. Her first ever game and what an experience. I bought her a Villa top in the shop before the game and she was so excited but it went through the roof the minute the game started and Ollie hit the post. Every minute after that was electric. We had a 3hr drive home after the game and she was buzzing. Told me how she could still hear the songs in her mind and see McGinns tackles. Just a beautiful thing. She’s 11 and had the time of her life.
