Things that piss you off that shouldn't

I’ve experienced exactly the same as you. Sent home with computer kit 18 months ago and constantly advised that things will never be the same and this is the new way of working! Then couple of week ago, we’re now switching to hybrid working and you can have a maximum two days at home a week. This new move appears only temporary as well just to appease and fully expecting us to back in the office full time by Easter.

The annoying thing is, work were/are getting more hours out of me when I’m at home because I don’t have the annoying commute to factor into my day.

It's dinosaurs in charge thinking that if you can't be seen then you obviously aren't doing any work. An easy thing to blame when something goes wrong. Morons

Work are suddenly discussing bringing everyone back into the office.

18 months of bullshit about office of the future and improved work life balance and embracing flexible working etc etc and all down the drain. Probably because some big dog walked into one of the offices and noticed there weren't many people there.

words removed

Must be something in the air as I get the feeling my employer will be soon starting to push people back in the office more. I'm currently 4 days at home, 1 in the office, which works for me. Nothing official communicated yet, but you can just sense it is coming from the odd comment here and there from senior management. I'll be disappointed If I end up in the same situation as I was pre-pandemic as it would make a mockery of the whole work/life balance and the 'new normal' angle they have been promoting. We'll see, I guess.

I've said this from the word go.

100% home working may work short term with an existing established team but you HAVE to have at least flexible working for:

Training

New Starter integration.

Team work

Culture development

Spotting a wrong un

Instant spontaneous communication

Overhearing things

Quick reaction to situations

People's investment with their current organisation being little more than a keyboard and screen

And millions of other tiny things that all go to make for an efficient working environment.

You forgot piss-ups after work! :)

I do agree with some of your points, I wouldn't want to be a new starter and WFH. I thoroughly enjoyed office life in my 20's - the amount of scrapes we got up to, we'd be 'cancelled' now, but it was good fun.

Now i'm a miserable word removed, i want to WFH and not interact with anyone! My productivity has been through the roof over the last 2 years.

Another program "Dream home make overs" on five, with the most insane decor ideas, you know, flamingo wall paper at 85 quid a roll. green an yellows in the kitchen.

Have they even made a program directed for the working class. Restoring a house with 50k budget instead off 500k+. Building a kitchen extension with 50-80k to spend rather than 1.5 million. I'm sure it would get many more viewings. "Old house, new home" I remember it starting okay with reasonable budgets on small detached homes, after series 2 or 3 it then ended up with the usual 500k budget on a house bought for a million??

There's that current garden makeover program where they use VR headsets for the designs. What I find interesting is that each programme does two makeovers, one big budget and one on the cheap. Couple of weeks ago, some woman spent £32,000 on the garden, and it was frankly, shite. I'd have been gutted if I'd wasted a grand on it, let alone 32,000.

Garden designers are raking it in. I know someone who put 12k on there garden, an apart from a trees you have to wrap up in the winter, i'm not sure where the money went. The guys pretty handy, but left it to the wife. He even he admitted, they did nothing he couldn't have done himself, apart from maybe the initial design.

Corned Beef tins. Every single time without fail I will cut my finger on the bastard things when trying to wash them for recycling.  Every bloody time.

There is surely a better way than those stupid frigging tins with the key that leaves the jaggedy edges?

Or, just pick it up / hold it differently?

I sometimes wander down the aisle with the spam, corned beef, and Frey Bentos pies, and wonder who the **** is buying this stuff, and if they have colour TVs yet, but here we have Sidcow and he's even got the internet!

Never had corned beef hash?

Fray bentos pies are actually pretty nice for the money, can be a pig to open at times though.

Bin day today. Didn't put it out last night, due to the storm. They never come until after 10.00 am, so I knew I'd have plenty of time this morning.

By 8 o'clock they'd already been and gone.

Bastards.

We missed two in a row after Christmas, one because the day changed for the bank holidays and I forgot to put it out again on the new day, then two weeks later because we were away and forgot to ask the neighbours to do it. Had to take some to the tip in the meantime, very annoying! /boringthread sorry
