In UK you either see an NHS dentist who try to do as little as possible to save money or private dentists who try to do unnecessary work to make money. He did so well to end the Office when he did, keeping it quite short (2 short series and Xmas special) but now he's dragging it out with these live performances and movie. No thanks. I'm having grief with a upper rear tooth and been to see the dentist a few times over the past couple of weeks. Due to the fact it goes up into my sinus my options are to get root canal done by a specialist at about £600 or get it pulled out (which needs to be done at a dental hospital) which would be free.... Amsterdam_Neil_D Posted August 6, 2014 Share Posted August 6, 2014 I thought The Office and Extras were both good but he just seems to play the same character time and time again and it's gone beyond being funny.... he's now up there with Lenny Henry IMO (he's THAT bad!!!) so expect David Brent to advertise Travelodge in a couple of years. I don't think David Brent and Andy Millman (his character from Extras) are the same character at all. I think the confusion comes from Gervais's style of comedy and his unique mannerisms, like when he says, 'Well...' at the start of all his sentences. I think he's a bit of an arrogant arsehole but I love The Office, Extras, The Ricky Gervais Show and An Idiot Abroad. I don't think Karl Pilkington is really as dumb or daft as he makes out though. I think he plays an exaggerated parody of himself, but it's funny so who cares? I think his work is up there with the best. The office from what I understand and the Brent character himself was not worked on for weeks and weeks, they just turned up with a few ideas and the Brent character was created on that first filming day by Gervais. If we look back in time at some of the people held up as comedy greats there work seems limited. Ask someone, do you know of Cook or Hancock, maybe. You ask if they have seen the office (any version ) and I suspect they have. The Ricky Gervais Show is probably one of my favourite TV series of all time. I re-watched it all over the last 2 weeks and Karl's film idea 1 and 2 are by far the funniest things I have ever watched. David Brent and Andy Millman aren't even close to being the same character. They have the same voice and accent, obviously, and similar comedy styles, but their characters are totally different. Similarly with Gervais himself and Brent. Gervais is similar to Brent in comedy style because that is his style of comedy. But as characters they're totally different people. FWIW I'm a fan of Gervais' work. I don't much like him as a person or his standup, but The Office, Extras and Derek have all been superb in their own way. And the Ricky Gervais show and in particular their XFM shows are the funniest things I've ever heard. Comedy gold. Regarding Pilk, he's not a character. A listen of the XFM shows will confirm that. yes he plays up to it a bit, but that really is him. That being said, I wasn't a huge fan of An Idiot Abroad. Who was comparing Andy Millman? I agree, very different to David Brent. I was just saying, someone who knows/knew Gervais quite well said that Gervais and Brent were one and the same.
