Chop chop! Lets all gawp at Newcastle (again)

As hilarious as it would be to see Newcastle go down, I just don't think West Ham will get anything against Newcastle. West Ham have been horrendous for months now. The lack of decision over Big Sam's contract (even when they were doing well), suggests they have a new manager lined up for when they move to their new home. Once the players work this out they lose that competitive edge to play for the manager. West Ham have managed 11 points in their last 15 games,

The Hammers players just might want to give rather large Samuel a good send off though. Fingers crossed. With United having nothing* to play for, a Hull win would mean a Newcastle draw isn't good enough.

* yes I know mathematically it could swing but ... y'know.

Yes a draw may not be good enough for Newcastle and West Ham may get that result, Hull will need to find their shooting boots though. Hopefully N'Doye or someone can do the business.

I know their owner's an absolute tube, but to be honest I don't get why the Club gets so much desire to see it relegated. I've always thought their fans are a decent bunch, by and large, and the media fest that used to be in place when keegan was there has gone away now.

So I basically see them a s a club with great support run by a shiny faced plum.

There are far more deserving cases for wishing to get relegated.

Newcastle are a big club and it's always funny seeing big clubs get relegated. Also Newcastle fans are still extremely bitter about the way we took the piss when they went down. They really want us to go down as shown by their behaviour up there when we lost in February. For this reason it would be hilarious if they were to go down again. (in reply to blandy)

I was hating Newcastle before it was cool! B)

Just spend anymore than a couple of hours in their company talking about football. Sit in with them, while they're watching a match. Go to Youth team game, and listen to them shouting at kids, and telling them they're shit. Listen to them telling you what they think of Villa.

You just have to laugh at the way they look down on us as being a big club. Of course being twice as successful as them means nothing

Fair enough. Each to their own views, n' that. I'm not trying to be sanctimonious or anything, but there are some clubs I dislike (West Ham, Leeds, the obvious, the other obvious etc.) but mostly I wouldn't find it funny if (say) Everton went down, or to be honest most clubs in the Prem. I'd just be glad it wasn't us, and feel sympathy for their fans.

I find it very hard to be sympathetic towards Newcastle fans, also see them as a club that can quite easily get in our way, the likes of Stoke, Swansea, Southampton etc enjoy their day in the sun, if Newcastle actually got themselves organised they'd be along with us and Everton targeting top 6/7 every season

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't like to see clubs like Everton or Newcastle rot in the lower divisions like Leeds, because the pl would be boring without clubs like them. However either dropping down for a season would be quite entertaining. I'm sure fans of other clubs would say the same about us

There's always a novelty factor in a big club getting relegated plus the added thing of Carver's 'It's funny how things turn out' comment before they played us in February.

Last time Newcastle got relegated VT still had a front page, the articles of which used to show up on Newsnow.  For a while Rantin' wrote some articles called "Why we must beat..." which absolutely ruined our forthcoming opposition and were a total fishing trip to get opposing fans to sign up and gob off.  When he retired the role I took it on for a while before it all became too much hassle for the Mods to manage.

It kind of got one last airing when the Jawdees got relegated, as I wrote the below piece which went on the front page and quite quickly got 10,000 views and became the number 1 read Newcastle article on Newsnow.

I might rehash it if they go down again...

Newcastle United could join a rejigged Scottish Premier League as early as the 2010-2011 season, owner Mike Ashley announced this evening following his club's relegation from the English Premiership.

The SPL has long been dominated by Celtic and Rangers "the Old Firm" and the prospect of northern English clubs joining them would lead to increased TV revenue and a dramatic rise in international interest.

With Europe an increasing obsession, clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool desire a reduction in the size of the Premiership. But in Scotland's case an INCREASE in the size of the league by adding northern giants such as Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Blackpool would give the league added appeal.

No one should doubt the seriousness of Newcastle's intentions in heading North. Mike Ashley, Newcastle's majority share-holder, said on Sunday that a move was "inevitable", adding that he felt "let down" by both Sky Sports and the Football Association whom he claimed had given him "assurances" that Newcastle would avoid the drop. But defeat against Champions of People's Hearts, Aston Villa, put paid to those "promises".

Brian Quinn, Celtic's chairman, claimed at Celtic Park on Sunday that the top Premiership clubs "relish" the prospect of joining the Old Firm, a view endorsed by a fat man with no shirt on outside Villa Park after Newcastle's lacklustre defeat.

The Premier League insist there are "no plans" to change the structure of the 20-strong division. But with Newcastle no longer under their jurisdiction the Toon Army would be free to move to the Scottish league where Ashley claims they would "get the love and respect" they "deserve".

Jumping borders may concern UEFA, not to mention the Scottish and English FAs, but Newcastle know their lawyers would have a case at Brussels where, in a world altered by Bosman, they could argue restraint of trade and movement. UEFA might struggle to explain why Monaco can play in the French League, Cardiff City and Swansea in the English but Newcastle cannot in the SPL.

"This club deserves to be in the Champions League year-on-year", Ashley concluded, "and a move to Scotland - our natural home some would say - means our amazing fans would get what they deserve".

The SportsDirect mogul went on to add that "the additional revenue generated would benefit the Scottish game immensely. I'm sure that the Scottish fans would be grateful to have us there and we'll show English football what they're missing. We were badly let down this season. Sky Sports and the Football Association promised me that they would ensure our Premier League survival if I appointed Alan Shearer as Manager for a publicity stunt. Now I'm left feeling that I've been made to look a right "publicity stunt" myself."

11 points from 15 is terrible. Newcastle have 1 point of a possible 33 though or something crazy.
