Chop chop! Lets all gawp at Newcastle (again)

I don't think any English team will deal with Newcastle in regards to transfers. Wood was only got because they hit the buy out clause.

I can’t believe people actually think this. It’s just a lazy, and wrong, comparison.

Why do you say that?
I’ve watched both of them several times. They are both fast attackers who have a frustratingly low successful rate. ASM is a bit more tricky and better overall than Adama but still fails to deliver consistently.

I had a look at Maximin's thread on a Newcastle forum and most of the posts are surprsingly negative, main complaint seems to be that he's not a team player and attempts to do everything himself.

That’s the problem, he’d frustrate the hell out of you if he played for your club.

Has been ongoing for a while now they are not a big fan. Definitely a Youtube player

I don't know what their fans expected.

They appointed a relegation specialist and results are poor? No shit.

He’s got relegated once hasn’t he? I’m not sure that qualifies as a specialist. If that’s the case you can probably add Dean Smith to that list this year as well.

They needed someone that can organise a defence, and Howe is more of an attacking coach. It’s no surprise that things started falling apart when all the old boys in Bournemouth’s defence started getting replaced.

Saw this stat earlier. Mildly interesting.

Probably doesn’t need stating, but none of the substitutes from that day are still at Villa either.

but our detractors will tell you we've spent loads of **** money and and got lucky with VAR

its genuinely what it takes in the PL now

I think people lump them together because they’re both fast, black players, but their style of play (and output) is completely different.

You say ASM has a frustratingly low success rate, but he’s had 8 goal involvements (5 goals, 3 assists) this season. That’s more than any Aston Villa player (Watkins and Ings best with 6 each) and 7 more ahead of Adama Traore (1 goal).

In fact, there are 20 “more involved” players in the Prem, and ASM is on par with B Silva, Foden, Maddison and Ward-Prowse.

The one downside to his game is that he tries to do everything himself and often takes on one too many players. Who knows how much of this is because Newcastle are poo and how much is just ASM being ASM.

But yeah, he’s just not like Traore, other than being quick (and black).

it's a novel idea but business is business.

you don't think we'd accept if they offered us something mad like 40m for targett?

Adama and Maximin are similar types of player, and it's not just because they're both fast, although that's a factor. Both are seen as good individual performers with speed and trickery, who can get their heads down and cause defences problems, but also both have been accused of having a poor distrubution and final ball, and not being very aware of what's going on around them, nor great at link up play, basically neither are seen as being great team players.

He’s basically Greenwood at United. Talented no doubt but he’s like a ten year old who just wants to shoot all the time

Saw Allan Shearers interview from 2009 when they got relegated, and read some of the comments of the Newcastle fans after, most complaining about Ashely and the way he sucked the life out of the club and that being the reason they got relegated, the team they had final day of the season consisted of ,Coloccini, Alan Smith, Michael Owen, Mark Viduka, Martins, Nicky Butt, Damien Duff, Edgar Davids, and Kevin Nolan, how on earth was that Mike Ashley’s fault?  It took almost 12 years for us to catch up with the fees they were paying for players,  they paid £18m for Michael Owen back in 2005!

Ashley didnt sign most of them players though. Ashley fault was listening to the fans and try to be there friend as he was spending before that

Fair point, either way he’s spent millions there not the best owner but certainly not the worst as many make him out to be.

He spent under what they earned though didn't he?

He was a fully fledged member of the happy to be here brigade which as a football fan is the worst place to be imo, no interest in moving up obviously doesn't want to go down... Just a nothing club going nowhere stuck in limbo, no young players to get excited by, boring horrible football and that was them under Rafa as well as Bruce

I'd rather be a Norwich fan than suffer that

He ran the club as a proper business, which football fans absolutely do not want.  They want lots of money spent whenever possible.
