Dodgyknees
He did what Pepe got sent off for against Germany, if the fourth official saw Benteke's slap he saw Mason's headbutt Mason SHOULD have been sent off.
penguin
again its a natural reaction not a decision to do.. Watching it again for me the natural reaction would be too push him away, no reason to touch his face and give the ref no choice.
DelboyVilla
We forget that Benteke is only 23 years old and has only one top flight season under his belt? He's still learning and this will hopefully be a learning excersie for him as he doesn't want to get the reputation for being easily wound up? Villarocker
In hindsight the big fella probably regrets doing what he did but, in the heat of the battle and with how Mason stuck his head in his face, I can understand his actions and don't blame him for the defeat at all. I blame the 4th official for being a blind and/or cheating tw*t and not grassing Mason up as well! If he'd done his job properly, we probably would have gone on to win the game. AValon
Of course, if Christian had dropped like a stone claiming the 'headbutt' and not reacted, then he would have been labelled a cheat. No win situation.....they was after him. Giveaway was Mason turning directly in the direction of the fourth official, trying to get Benteke sent off. The boy dunne wrong, but the Spurs were guilty of being as dodgy as Harry Kanes MOTM.
adw95
Much rather him get sent off than flail about like a **** fish for a minor touch. Edited November 3, 2014 by adw95

Walk away from it, let the referee decide what to do with Mason. It's not a case of Benteke having to either strike out OR hit the deck. Modern football though, eh?
AntrimBlack
If he had simply complained to the ref or linesman, neither gone down or retaliated, Mason might well have been sent off. At least he would not have been sent off, and there might have been retrospective action against Mason, even if no action was taken by the ref at the time. villa4europe
if he'd have dived when lamela tackled him he wouldnt have been sent off, if he'd have dived when mason tackled him he wouldnt have been sent off, if he'd had dived after mason shoulder barged him he wouldnt have been sent off and it he'd have dived when mason stuck his head in his face he wouldnt have been sent off he was fouled 4 times in that incident alone, fouled **** knows how many times during the course of the match, got absolutely nothing, not condoning what he did but its not rocket science as to what spurs were doing, he'd already had a pop at the ref in the 1st half, we got absolutely nothing from that ref

Belgian guy
Is it Bentekes fault Chadli got left unmarked? is it Benteke's fault sanchez made the most unnesessary fault on such a dangerous spot? is it benteke's fault the free kick deflects on a player in the goal? i think unregarded his sending off spurs were gonna win anyway regardless benteke's sending off. such defensive errors has nothing to do with wether benteke is or isnt on the pitch. fact is that spurs were getting more dangerous by the minute and that goal was comming.

It's his fault we lost. Defensive errors do have to do with Benteke being off the pitch, without him as an "out" ball, the defence were under more pressure. We naturally dropped back more, had to chase the ball more due to having less players which results in players being more fatigued. There's no defending what he did, he cost us the game, well.... he cost us the only chance we had of winning it. KJT123
I tell you what, watching that back Mason is a little clearing in the woods isn't he. Benteke turns around and Mason barges him in the back after he got the better of him. What a little word removed.

So that clumsy foul from sanchez is the fault of benteke? so if benteke was still on the field sanchez would never make that foul? i did not know that the impact of a striker was so critical in the process of a correct tackle. Jimzk5
Its the butterfly effect. Benteke getting sent off caused us to go defensive and that in turn caused us to crumble.
