All this ruling does is allow states to make their own abortion laws. So if you really want to kill your fetus just travel to one of the around 50% of states which allow it. There’s really no need to be so hysterical about it

And poor people, often of non-white races who both can’t afford to travel elsewhere or raise a kid? And in those states where they’ll ban it, there’s no healthcare, funding for babies, childcare, foster programs, sex Ed (only abstinence)

if they’re so pro life, you’d imagine they’d be pro life at every stage. Not just for the rights of a clump of cells right?

Although I do have to add, the clamour from non-US citizens going mad about this; we had our government over here, using a court as a political tool almost always ban abortion (not just states rights, a total ban) and there wasn’t a peep.

slightly frustrating considering the size of the country slap bang in the middle of Europe. Women over here are even more restricted than in the states and if they want abortion, they need to travel to an entirely different country, whilst it being illegal to do so.

We basically import most of our culture from the US now, from entertainment to our perceptions of social inequality. Nothing makes me facepalm like hearing young Brits banging on about "defunding the police" like we're the 51st state of America.

There's also just perception of what the countries "should" be like, I think - despite all evidence to the contrary, Hollywood has beaten "land of the free" into people to the extent some people actually believe it, whereas Poland? Where's that, over to the east somewhere? Yeah that does sound like the kind of thing they do over there...Anything east of Germany hardly gets a mention over here unless it involves a war.

Oh for sure I get the logic of it but it’s funny to me to see the hypocrisy of apparently up to date and global liberals when they don’t give a shit about bigger issues closer to home

I don't think it would be constitutional for a state to ban its citizens from travelling to another state for a medical procedure.

Missouri tried to ban it earlier this year and failed - the fear is that Roe was used as an argument to prevent the bill passing. Republicans in Texas have already started talking about not just criminalising travel for abortion, but also criminalising importing pills for it, as well as "aiding and abetting" someone seeking an abortion, which they want to use to not just stop people assisting people travelling for one, but also for helping to fund someone from obtaining an abortion, no matter where it occurs.

There are a lot of people, with a much better understanding than me, who say it would be unconstitutional, but that doesn't stop a state passing the bill and enforcing it, it just means very long and expensive court cases for people who try to contest it?

What could that self-interest be?

I am sure they have a lot of female employees who are absolutely key to their business.

I stand to be corrected, but women who have babies are prone to change their focus and priorities.

Didn't they have to ban employers asking prospective female candidates at interviews whether they had children?

Before Friday it was unconstitutional to send abortion rights to the states yet here we are. The constitution means nothing other than the interpretation of which old crusty unelected judges are on the SCOTUS, with no term limit.

Nice gesture of those companies, but their employees are not going to be the ones impacted the most. They have steady jobs, probably reasonably paid, so they could traven on their own (for moet of these companies).

unemployed women will be impacted the most.
I’m curious how they are going to be checking on these women in no abortion states. Will they be examined at the border? Or Will it just be a random person claiming you were pregnant making you a suspect?

Ignorance of the size of America and the cost of travel? Or just trolling?

The Department of Defense openly defying the Supreme Court...strange days.

We discussed this earlier on. Seems that the military as a federal organisation don't have to follow state rules, and the roe vs wade decision just handed the rulemaking on abortions to state level.

Quite right. Nonetheless, an interesting public rejection you don't often see, if ever. If the court bans abortion federally, the DoD will have it's hands tied.

Dems really need to step up here.  I don't expect them to, but they need to expand the SCOTUS, end the filibuster, and bang out a few laws guaranteeing access to safe and legal abortions US wide (Federal land could be used for this).  I don't know if any existing rules allow, but I'm 90% sure that the last 2 SCOTUS judges appointed both lied under oath about protecting Roe v Wade.  What is the point of the hearing if you can just BS your way through them?  Recall/impeach those 2.  So much that is wrong with America goes back to the rich and powerful being utterly consequence free.
