They get themselves into trouble trying to be relevant in the transfer window. It's not really the same sets of reporting skills as the season and I think many reporters today simply aren't equipped to do "both" jobs. Yes, you might use some of the same sources, but it's a just a whole different game. I think there almost need to be transfer window specialists, just as there are free kick and pen specialists, etc. on the pitch lol. Maybe I'm missing something big, but I feel like I'm seeing so much bullshit this summer and missed stories and obvious ****-ups even from the major media. I don't know who to trust. The best thing we can could all do (which we don't) is ignore all football media from the final whistle of the last game of the season until the first whistle of the first pre season game. She's now saying that she didn't ask them to make a fictional bid, but merely asked them what they were going to bid. So everyone calling her out on her bizarre comments before was right. It never made sense in the first place because I don't see how asking a rival to bid for a player they don't want helps you get a deal over the line with your club for the same player. Not least because why would the rival help you, but mainly because they're not going to waste their time on something that doesn't benefit them. Now if she'd said "City will bid, with no intention of actually signing Rice, but just to try and get Arsenal to spend more"... then maybe that would make sense.
