I don't think he had a bad game, though. He appeared to be losing his cool when City were on top, and started to throw himself to the ground far too easily. Overall he was probably a 7 or 8 out of 10 performance though. It seems on the whole that there are a few players in that team who go over very easily. Whether it's encouraged or not I wouldn't be able to say, but there's a definite "lack of strength/balance" in certain players in that team. He is utterly, utterly world class, and his Messi-like figures attest to that. Sure, he scores fewer goals against the top teams, but that's to be expected - Ronaldo doesn't regularly score hat-tricks against Barca, for example. On MOTD they pointed out that he tripped over the trailing leg of the opponent, so not a foul or a booking. The ref did well to get that one right. Getting a police escort away from the ground then leading you onto stanley park, only for the old bill too abandon you knowing that the scousers were waiting for you. I know for certain thanks a friend who knows former Liverpool youth player Jack Hobbs that during his time there 2005-2009, the players at all levels, directed by Rafa practised in training winning penalties and making the most of contact. I've no idea how much time they spent doing it but it was a feature of their training. Given their quite incredible PL record of winning penalties and the ease with which their players go down (as demonstrated yesterday) its is fair to say their practise made perfect and seems to have become quite engrained within the club. I remember going up the kop when it was still terraces wearing a Villa shirt. I may have got a few looks but thats it. We all have different experiences. If u think they haven't been lucky fair enough If Liverpool win it will be down to not playing in Europe. They didn't even have to show up for the Europa League, which is a huge bonus. The same will probably happen with Man Utd this season, if they fail to qualify for the EL then it will be a huge bonus for next season without a doubt. They could field reserves in the Capital One Cup, switch around in the FA Cup and always field a strong team in the league. I totally agree the best team wins over 38 games, but few teams challenge without being in Europe because of the former season. Liverpool are a strange case, they performed woefully last season under the same manager and now they are reaping the benefits from sticking to him so to speak. They always had many good players, so this scenario has been utterly lucky for them. Next season they will play in the Champions League and in no way will they challenge in the league, it would take them at least 100M to even be close. I hope they fail though, I couldn't possibly last the gloating from their fans and the sainthood of Steven Gerrard. The same happened when they won the Champions League ten years ago. If anyone has benefitted from the referees, it's Chelsea. I don't think Liverpool have had that much refereeing luck. The luck has been crashing out of both cups early and not playing in Europe, easily a 6 point advantage over the course of the season that very much could decide the title. Anyone know the identity of the team who've won the most penalties in a season in the premier league?
