Ron Vlaar

Anyone else thinking the more these injuries occur the more likely he is to still be here this time next year?

Cant see us offering him the money he wants so knowing what we do about his injury proneness its highly unlikely imo.

Big fan of Ron but these injuries are just too much, think we'd be better off focusing on 3 or 4 other CBs who are more reliable rather than having Vlaar's injury status dictate things at the back.

If only we could still get some money for him, his value has certainly dropped since the summer.

yep i dont think he will get the big move he thinks he will and if he does he will be  a bench warmer. i mean vlaar wouldnt get into any of the top 5 clubs first team in my opinion (based on villa form not world cup)

Is he a big loss? I don't think he's played a major part in our massive improvement in goals conceded.

This time last year he would have been a huge loss. We were markedly better with him in the team (although still not amazing obviously!)

But now that Clark and, especially, Okore have stepped up, and we have Baker and Senderos still in the squad who have both performed admirably this season then no, I don't think Vlaar will be a huge loss, especially as he'll only be here for 6 months anyway.

Get rid if possible.

Concrete Gone more like

I like him, but if he and his agent have said "thanks, but no thanks." to us trying to open negotiations then I'm not fussed.

Whoever gets him, even if they get a full season out of him, he'll only last until he's 32/33 - see Martin Laursen.

These niggly 4-6 week knee/calf injuries don't magically get less as the player gets older, they get worse as the player over compensates and stresses out other muscles and ligaments.

As it stands, he was lucky to have us, not the other way round.

I'm not sure I'd even want him to sign a new contract, if he wanted to. He's picking up niggles left, right and centre, and like lapalfan says, this will only get worse as he gets older.

We can't have a player on 30/40k p/w, who makes 6 appearances and then disappears for 7.

Senderos, Clark, Okore and Baker will (hopefully!) keep doing the business this season, and we'll see where we stand in the summer, as to whether we want a new, experienced defender.

Oh shut up Rob182, you racist, bigoted, lefty, righty - tighty, neoliberal, socialist, conservative, apologist, solopist, naturistic scumbag, as if, yea?

And whilst I'm on it, I don't like your hat, it makes you look STOOPID..

Oh, we agree, fair do's, sorry for saying your hat looked stoopid.. :(

Hmmm I would think he's not going anywhere now.  We got our very own sick note  in Ron Vlaar.

He's appeared in just over half of our 20 games this season.  If we have a contract on the table for him I would withdraw and let him go.

He is far too injury prone.

Napoli seems a good fit for him, chasing the Champions League spots, probably get a pay rise and generally defenders play a lot longer in Italy (assuming the game hasn't moved on since Channel 4 days). A new deal here just doesn't make any sense for us or him really. Shame because I really like him and he was almost our entire defence for a while.
