jayEm Posted January 8, 2015 Share Posted January 8, 2015 Big fan of Ron but these injuries are just too much, think we'd be better off focusing on 3 or 4 other CBs who are more reliable rather than having Vlaar's injury status dictate things at the back. This time last year he would have been a huge loss. We were markedly better with him in the team (although still not amazing obviously!) But now that Clark and, especially, Okore have stepped up, and we have Baker and Senderos still in the squad who have both performed admirably this season then no, I don't think Vlaar will be a huge loss, especially as he'll only be here for 6 months anyway. Whoever gets him, even if they get a full season out of him, he'll only last until he's 32/33 - see Martin Laursen. These niggly 4-6 week knee/calf injuries don't magically get less as the player gets older, they get worse as the player over compensates and stresses out other muscles and ligaments. He's picking up niggles left, right and centre, and like lapalfan says, this will only get worse as he gets older. We can't have a player on 30/40k p/w, who makes 6 appearances and then disappears for 7. Senderos, Clark, Okore and Baker will (hopefully!) keep doing the business this season, and we'll see where we stand in the summer, as to whether we want a new, experienced defender. 4 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

He's appeared in just over half of our 20 games this season. If we have a contract on the table for him I would withdraw and let him go. He is far too injury prone. sharkyvilla Posted January 8, 2015 Share Posted January 8, 2015 Napoli seems a good fit for him, chasing the Champions League spots, probably get a pay rise and generally defenders play a lot longer in Italy (assuming the game hasn't moved on since Channel 4 days). A new deal here just doesn't make any sense for us or him really. Shame because I really like him and he was almost our entire defence for a while.
