Ponky
Brilliant display. Someone said not great coz it's not Messi - over a full season in this particular League, for this particular Club, at this time in the development , I would prefer Holman. I for one admire the bravery and momentary rush of blood to the head that no doubt inspired this post. All the best people say silly things from time to time Indeed one might say it was very Holman-esque: big on effort and courage but a little light-on with the end product! CI
I'm now convinced, some people in here would start an argument with themselves if there was nobody else around
lexicon
Messi is one of the greatest footballers of all time.. just.. no. Terry. No. Just give it up, you can't win this.
Pelle
I get what you mean, Terry, and partly agree with you. But Messi was a poor choice to compare with. Just as Ronaldo and a few others. But if you'd compared him with the same kind of players just a few classes below Messi than you'd probably be spot on. But having said that I can see Holman man marking Messi and frustrate him as hell. I mean, Messi would go past him all the time but then Holman would get back like an annoying cartoon character. I think Holman will be very good for us. And one thing I like with him is that though he's interrupting the opponents play and hassle them around he never does anything dirty. He's a clean player who's just on your back all the time. The kind of player that the other team will hate. I'd compare him with Park.
rodigan
holman is working hard and doing well for us... well done lad, keep up the good work... thats all i have to say on the matter...
LondonLax
Good to have a player who closes down high up the pitch. Especially useful against teams like Swansea or Rodger's Liverpool who like to be a bit patient at the back and build up an attack.
AValon
Looks like he'll be a constant, a grafter and with a no-nonsense approach to the game. Sort of a Aussie Rules mentality......without the ABH of course!
Stevo985 Posted September 18, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted September 18, 2012 People saying he's not good enough for us is churlish. No-one has said that.
CHW
right, stop this madness... loads of stats yeah, holman definitely streets ahead there alright, clearly. :| look, this is just bollocks. yes Ireland works hard, is doing ok and i'm sure there is more to come. But using stats like these to compare him to Holman is pointless. What Holman brought, particularly against Swansea, was constant harassing of opponents on the ball, which knocked them off their rhythm, forced errors and generally disrupted their patterns. This isn't necessarily shown in the stats so can we please stop this bollocks comparison? Ireland's work rate was good too and no doubt contributed to the closing down of the Swansea game, but not at the same level as Holman. You have to be blind to suggest it does. villaglint
Apparently he was a bit tired going into the Swansea game after 10 days away with the Aussies ! Yeah he looked a bit heavy legged to me... Genuine question - not comparing football ability because they are different players - but who works harder in a game Holman or Jimmy? Clash of the titans

Straggler
Holman is my new favourite player. I love the drive and to forward momentum that he gives us
PieFacE Posted September 18, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted September 18, 2012 Absolutely love his engine..... Unsure on his footballing ability. Every team needs a player who can come into the squad and get in the faces of the opposition when needed. So I'm glad he's in the squad. Would he be the first name on the team for me? Only when we need to apply huge amounts of pressure on the opposition to stop them from playing. Against better opposition than Swansea I doubt they'd make so many errors. But he was quite excellent against Swansea that's for sure.

villaglint
Herd should be able to do a similar job. No of course he wouldn't they are entirely different players. Herd has a good engine and is a good tackler but has none of the attacking dynamism that Holman has - he is a holding midfielder
