mjmooney Posted May 21, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted May 21, 2012 McLeish has been given a job at SKY. Hope he's careful up the ladder, those dishes are heavy. (Crossposted from the jokes thread...)
kevangrealish
That fuckwitt Faulkner should follow him out the door for sanctioning the most ridiculous managerial appointment in history. I mean, every one but every one (bar SAF as someone pointed out) could see that this was NEVER, EVER going to work. Yet a CEO of a top Premiership football demonstrated gross incompatence by appointing this moron? Surely PF is more to blame than anyone else here? Be gone with you Paul you tit Agreed. StanBalaban
He's still living in cloud cuckoo land! Today's Mail article with 'him'. Still no acceptance that his brand of football was shit! Villa Fans were always against me Alex McLeish has broken his silence on his Aston Villa exit, and insisted the club's fans were always against him. Big Eck lasted less than 12 months at Villa Park after swapping relegated Birmingham for their bitter Second City rivals last summer. McLeish was sacked in May after Villa limped to a 16th place finish after winning just one of their final 16 matches. However, the Scot insists his reign was a success because he kept Villa "competitive" while reducing their huge wage bill amid a big injury crisis. McLeish, 53, said: "There were a few difficulties, but I don't think the Villa fans totally accepted me being in the job. "It was a massive challenge for me and made even more demanding because of the fact that I worked with the club on a project to reduce the wages. "Not every Villa fan will agree I did a marvellous job, but I did manage to reduce the wage levels and at the same time remain competitive. "It became increasingly difficult when we lost a lot of key players through injury and the captain, Stiliyan Petrov has a grave illness, acute leukaemia. Nothing compares to you: Petrov's illness and a raft of injuries hampered Villa "But I must say that a great number of young players came into the game and they had great education - maybe not quite ready to play every single week but they fought a really good fight and managed to finish above some more experienced teams. "Villa fans expect to be further up the table but it doesn't necessarily mean you will finish in the top six. "You do need to have your experienced players at all times and obviously try to increase the quality to do that. "That would have been the next step for me, but unfortunately things have moved on and I will take a break." McLeish booked himself in for a health check as soon as a stressful campaign spent fire-fighting a string of controversies ended. He received a generous settlement on the remaining two years of his Villa contract and has spent the time since May travelling with his family. McLeish is understood to want to take an extended break before eventually returning to management. Speaking from the Cayman Islands in the Caribbean, he added: "I just tried to chill out, reading some books and magazines after a very tough season in the Premier League. Keyblade
It wasn't our fault we finished 16th. Kept us competitive? We survived relegation by 2 points, not winning a game for about 10 games in the run-in. Blaming injuries is just silly.

Grievemeister
The crowd never booed him and never cheered him, that says to me he had the chance to win us over. He didnt and that was evident. Great job, do one!
jimcohen
Agreed, but he does make some fair points. I couldnt stan the guy and wanted himout from day 1, dont get me wrong! But we did have a lot of injuries and we have lost a lot of good players in the last 4 years without really repoacing them and the kids were not ready to play in the nubers they had to last season. So despite the fact that he will go down as one of thebiggest misstakes we have ever made, which I totally agree with, he does, to be fair, you have to admit, make some fair points. Here's hoeing he goes back to blues and get them relegated again!

Oaks
If he actually believes he did a good job, I think it will hinder him getting a new job. Which is good, he should be nowhere near another football club again.
