Stephen Ireland

I have no doubt that the Ireland story is true.

Gazton is 100% on all things to do with Irish players.

And do you really think Stephen Ireland turned his back on his own country over some little incident? It must have been as bad as the story mentioned by Gazton.

Anyway, I really want Ireland to turn good and I have said all along that he is easily our most talented player and we need to make sure he uses his potential for Villa.

I actually think Ireland has acted in a dignified and mature manner.

Which is what makes it so unbelievable.

What makes it wholly believable is the concept of Staunton being a complete bellend.

I think Ireland is a bit of a fruit and sometimes causes his own trouble (in the press) but that is totally unacceptable. Some people should have lost their jobs/right to play for their country because of that. Do you know who the players were gazton? Obviously don't post it on here.

Rumours back then was it were Stephen Hunt and Robbie Keane :|

At the time I remember hearing it was the then Reading clique of Hunt, Doyle, and Shane Long. Stephen Hunt subsequntly went on to Ryan Tubridy's show and pretty much admitted to this thinking it was a hilarious story, and then said there would be blue murder if SI came back into the Irish setup (in the context of ROI managing to qualify for Euro 2008).

Shows the total lack of any discipline in Staunton's ROI set-up.

You wouldn't believe the shit what can go on in "regular workplaces", and it does not surprise me at all that things like this goes unpunished because the 'football culture' is still "We're so macho lads in football!"

Im sorry but I absolutely refuse to believe that happened, its too far fetched, its basically assault and there would have been severe repurcussions from the police/football authorities etc... things like that do not go unpunished unless they didnt happen.

Oh and being asked to write a poem? Someones on the wind up big time.

I understand untoward things happen between squadmates (Hartson going psycho/Adebayor & Toure fight etc.) but I still think this is a load of bollocks. A manager of an international team asks an assaulted player to write him a poem about it? Pull the other one. The press would have been all over it.

Stephen Ireland doesn't seem the collected type, I can't imagine him just saying 'Give it a rest guys, I'm going to report you to the relevant authorities if you continue with these actions'...

Forgetting all the above nonsense that doesnt really matter, Ireland has to perform well this season.

Our supply line has been sold off by the board and I genuinely believe that if Ireland doesnt recapture some of his form from the man city days, we could be in a relegation scrap.

I dont paticularly like the guy, but all will be forgiven if he has an awesome season.

Very anxious about the upcoming campaign.

A set-up which included Kevin MacDonald in a senior role too...

Even the worst regimes can have a sprinkling of good men in them :)

I thought his nan died or something? Also, if he was that bothered about what supposedly happened, then why didnt he just come out and tell the truth about the whole thing after it happened?

I can smell a rat :detect:

Yeah.

Ashley Cole's currently in prison for shooting that kid and Joey Barton never came back into the game after stubbing his cigar out in a teammate's eye.

THE insincerity of some footballers makes you gasp. At least it does me.

Take that buffoon Stephen Ireland for a start.

This is the guy who was offered up to Geordies in the January transfer window as the sop following the transfer of England centre-forward and local hero Andy Carroll to Liverpool.

He was, to all intents and purposes, supposed to be United’s final insurance against relegation.

Yet the guy arrived injured, made but a couple of fleeting sub appearances during which he got injured again, and finally departed our boundaries. The only impression he made was in a city centre nightclub when he strode on stage with a couple of other stooges and bared his rippling chest on a night when United were preparing to fight for their lives the next day.

Throughout his stay, however, Ireland bleated on in the North East Press about how he hoped to make the move permanent, having rid himself of the hell of Aston Villa where he was clearly not wanted so soon after arriving.

Now the whole scenario has changed – and so has Ireland. A new manager has emerged at Villa and Ireland obviously wishes to curry favour with Alex McLeish and convince the Villa fans that he is theirs in heart as well as body.

“I never wanted to go to Newcastle,” he insisted this week.

“I got sent basically against my own will.”

It might surprise the Bald One to learn that we didn’t want him here either. He had been a shadow of the once decent box-to-box player at Manchester City, Newcastle were hardly short of central midfielders, and we were heartily sick of recruiting players already injured.

He gave Newcastle nothing and now has the audacity to bad-mouth the club and its supporters. Clever lad, our Stephen.

Not that anyone can be shocked. He has displayed such a lack of honesty and sincerity before of course.

This was the genius who, when wishing to turn his back on the Republic of Ireland national side, concocted such an outrageous story and dug himself deeper and deeper into a black hole that he had to own up to his repeated lies in the end.

First he declared as his reason for withdrawing that his grandmother had died which came as something of a surprise to Patricia Tallon when she read of her demise. Next Ireland backtracked and said it was actually his paternal grandmother Brenda Kitchener. She threatened to sue the newspaper who carried the story of her impending funeral.

Not only did Ireland two-finger his country but his own club too. He asked Sven-Goran Eriksson at Man City if he could be excused playing against Villa on the weekend because he was still grieving and had to help with the funeral arrangements.

When caught out, apparently much to his amazement, it emerged that in fact what Ireland really wanted was to get away to visit his lonely girlfriend in Cork.

A young whippersnapper, you may conclude, who is several slates short of a full roof.

They say no man is an Ireland. Well, this one certainly stands alone.

His then girlfriend, now wife (i think) had a miscarriage. Lost their child and Ireland left international duty. Not wanting to tell the world of his drastic loss, and because he was still young and nieve(sp.) He concocted a story about grannies dying. Quite sad.

Completely idiotic. He could have just said it was a personal matter and left it at that. There was no need to come up with a complete lie and in my eyes it just shows that he might be a bit unstable in the head...

Anyway, we really need him to step up this season. I really hope he can do it, as he has shown for Man City in the past that he can be a fantastic player on his day. I'm not convinced that he will come good yet I'm hoping he will.

What is the point of him coming out and saying he didn't want to go to Newcastle and was forced against is will after he was blowing smoke back in January about how great it is to get away from Aston Villa and how he has a great chance at Newcastle to get a perminent move?

The guy really is madder than a box of frogs isn't he?

I don't think things are going to work out with him.
