You're obsessed buddy

Obsessed eh?

Pick half a dozen "regular" posters in there and go back ten pages, then you'll see who's obsessed.

I'm actually obsessed about the saddoes that are obsessed with Gresford. Still.

So yeah, obsessed.

I also think you are obsessed with my comments about this thread, not the first time you've commented.

I posted in there as it's a weird old thread and a few people were ha it's you that is obsessed. Yet they are the ones that sit in it all day every day. Waiting, sat at the window, hoping that their lover will return.

I've been trying to hunt down my favourite sound-effect from my youth. Finally found it. I use it all the time, nobody has a clue :D

Used while sitting on the toilet no doubt :P

I do love a reference that's only for me. Some I use, and people don't get. Some are just for in my head :D

The police have set up a little speed camera tripod over the road from us, it's hidden behind a tree and it's a busy dual carriageway 30kmph road, it flashes red every time someone speeds past

Spent the last hour screaming "ooh ooooh got one got one

Its got loads

I never gamble but I was picking a friend up from the pub and he twisted my arm into putting $2 into the pokie machine, walked away with $98 😁

EDIT: also feel like I should mention I have immediately decided to retire from gambling and remain on top forever 😅

I used to use the Fruities a fair bit as a kid.

Buy a pint with a tenner then put all the change into the machine.

This was when a pint cost about £2 and £8 would last a fair time on a machine.  10p a spin.

It was never a problem and I'm glad I stopped doing it. It's the best thing ever when you're dont even understand how they work any more, it's too intimidating to put your cash in.

I remember a guy when we were 18/19, he’d pump so much money into those machines.
Back then jackpot was about £25. He once put about £50 or £60 in but was determined not to leave it for someone else to win. Spent all his money, walked down the street to the cash point to get more and out that in. It was something like £80 or £90 in the end before he won about £30 or £40 and decided to cut his losses.

I hate to think how much he has lost gambling over the years as he was into everything.

They are so dangerous.

Scenario 1: You pop a couple of quid in and win a tidy sum. You’re delighted, it’s so easy, you keep going back to try and do it again. Eventually the odds eat you up.

Scenario 2: As above, you lose and keep losing. You’re determined to get your money back, or as much as possible.

The house wins, eventually either way.

Absolutely. My brother in law owns a classic fruit machine, Noel Edmunds Deal or No Deal

It has a switch inside as they all do that allows the operator to flex the odds to make the machine more or less generous with payouts, but even on the most generous setting rhe house always wins.

I expect they tend to flex them up and down periodically so some people get some decent wins to remember one night then can't work out why they try again a few nights later and can't seem to get the bugger to pay anything.

Me brother started off on fruit machines and it ultimately led to him being in a world of shit a couple of years ago, gambling wasn’t his only issue at that point but it was a big contributor in him ending up thousands (and thousands) of pounds in debt.

I used to enjoy a bet, mainly on the football but occasionally on the horses too, these days I don’t go near it, there’s a good reason companies like Bet365 are posting ridiculous profits.

I don’t know how to play the fruit machines. Never have. I think I’ve said before that when I was a teenager, all my mates seem to instinctively know how to play, like every other boy at the age of 14 was given a manual with instructions on the matter. To me there seems to be a surplus amount of lights on the machine.

I’m more at home with quiz machines. If I have to lose my money, I’d rather that.

Somewhat related, it was only recently that I decided to find out how the penny pushers work/make the establishment a profit. The sneaky bastards, it IS done with mirrors (for some of it, anyway).

Slots in pubs are around 75% rtp (return to player), so effectively the machine makes 25p for every pound that goes in averaged out over a few thousand spins.

Online they are much higher, about 95% but  they eat through money at a much faster rate.

The other difference is that almost all online slots need no knowledge or experience how to play. You just hit spin and you get what it’s giving out.
In pub machines constantly give you options, there’s always the fear of getting nothing. If you take one chance too many.

When you see the kinds of insane profits companies like Bet365 make then it’s clear it’s a major problem. The lady that owns it “earned” £469m in a single year. Nearly £10m a week just for her. Imagine how many lives are destroyed per week for her to make that much money.

Same. These days the only times I bet is once a year on the Grand National and if I go to the races, like Cheltenham. Which is very rare.

And even then it's just because it's part of the day out. It makes it more fun and you just bet what you can afford and it makes it a bit more interesting.

I really pity those who are addicted to gambling. There are some horiffic stories. It's just pouring money down the drain

Unless you're spinning with a bonus and you know to hold your Wilds and to spin again when using cash on a certain slot 😉.

That was elite level loop holing that was.

The pandemic killed the need for online bookies and casinos to do promotions (to be exploited for profit).
