My 2 cents on why Southgate isn’t picking Grealish from the start of matches, it could be and I stress could be because he played for Ireland u15s earlier in his career. This is pure speculation but maybe Southgate wants players that are fully English and committed to the cause. I can’t think of another reason why he isn’t picking him, I’d like to hear other poster’s opinions on this

Gareth has his favourites like any other manager and that's it pure and simple.

I'm just worried that when he gets back to Bodymoor Heath, for the first 20 minutes until the coaches exorcise him, he will be like prime Jake Livermore.

Declan Rice has 3 full international caps for Ireland.

I think with Kane dropping deep, he likes to have pace running in behind down the wings.

Southgate shouldn’t have his favourites, all players should be on an equal footing

Jake Livermore was a good player a few years ago, lost his way a bit now, don’t get me wrong, he’s still decent but not just as good as he should be

I think this is true but I also don’t think that Grealish is slow, not by any means

Jack is faster with the ball then all of them. If we want fast, let's get Kriss Akabusi.

Was at the game last night and had a brilliant view of the whole pitch, was sat behind the dugout at the front of the top tier. Mounts performance reminded me a lot of Conor Hourihane, he ran around not doing a lot and often hid instead of showing for the ball. I can only assume he gets picked for his set piece delivery which I also thought was poor for the most part. He’s been average all tournament but still remains a first choice, it genuinely baffles me. I’m not knocking Mount he’s a good player but isn’t the best player in the squad to play that position.

I know some players quietly go about their business effectively without being noticed but I dont see Mount offering goals and assists so what's the point? Yes he's probably covering well but who cares when there's Rice and Phillips to do that. Start Jack and bring Mount on as the super sub to defend if that's what Southgate wants lol

He's not. But he doesn't play the same way. He doesn't run past fullbacks looking to get on through balls. He doesn't attack fullbacks and get to the byline.

He's fantastic at what he does and I'd have him in my England 11 every single time. But clearly Southgate wants different attributes out wide to start games.

Dad where were you in 66 when England won the world cup?

Oh lad what a time, we were dancing in the streets till midnight, there was a block party and a good old sing song, what a time to be alive that was, we danced until the early hours without a care in the world, oh to be young and merry again. Halcyon days lad.

Dad where were you in 21 when England won the Euros.

On a forum complaining Jack didn't start and calling the manager a word removed.

Yep. I think part of why Mount looked average against Denmark was that he doesn't really suit the style either. It's all about pacy wingers getting onto through balls or balls over the top.

Imagine an alternate universe where we're starting Grealish and Foden or Sancho on the wings and the entire attack is built around driving runs through the middle of the pitch and lots of 1-2s and give and go between the likes of Jack, Kane and Mount etc. Football porn.

A prime Gabby would be perfect for the way Southgate wants to play, and Sterling is probably the player of the tournament if England can win it.
