Finally up to date on Twin Peaks!

Big disappointment so far for me. Twin Peaks always had an engaging narrative that was augmented by the general quirkiness associated with the show. Now it's just weirdness for the sake of weirdness with little or no substance. Add to that the fact that Lynch is dragging the arse out of tedious side-stories. Dougie? Really? "Okay Kyle, time for another 20 minute scene where different people talk to you and you repeat the last word they say. That won't become tiresome at all!"

It seems to be getting some good reviews but all I can think of is the emperor's new clothes! 10 episodes to go to redeem itself, but for me it's self-indulgent and lacking substance.

I don't even know you and I'm dissapointed that you're dissapointed!

Spoiler

What did you think of Ep 8? I know it was mental, but I couldn't take my eyes off it. Visually amazing. I think more is being revealed than maybe we think? All of it seems to be linked?

I still think it's retained the comedy, if not the charm of the original. The scenes with the Doc were great and the episode where 'Dougie' was in the casino is up there with my fave Twin Peaks moments......Hello-oooooooooo and 'Mr Jackpots' had me crying! I think the 2nd half may head back into more familiar territory.

Ep 8 was mental, I'll agree with you there! It did begin to provide some insights into the mythology of BOB/The Black Lodge/etc, but other than these backstories being slightly expanded upon, nothing of interest is happening. An esoteric tone can be great in a TV series/film, but that can't be all there is. Each episode so far has been like an Avant-Garde shortfilm with little value towards the overall show.

As I said, there are 10 eps left to turn it around but the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and so far the pudding tastes like putrid, soggy mush!

It's a shame you're not enjoying it and I don't mean that in a condescending way. As a massive fan of the originals, I was worried I wouldn't like it, so it must be a bit shit for you.

I can see where your coming from, it is basically the final episode of the originals, with the weirdometer dialled up to 11!

Hope it gets better for you!

I actually loved the final ep of the originals! Felt it was great storytelling with a really eccentric vibe. Just feel that vibe is all that remains, with Dougie's aimless adventures the only vehicle for progressing the storyline! Anyway, glad you (and seemingly plenty more TP fans) are enjoying it!

Just watched Netflix's animated Castlevania adaptation.

Er.

I like the Castlevania series, it's has its up and downs but the world it makes is fun, the weird mash up of Dracula and Gothic fiction, steam punk and Japanese anime melodrama. It lends itself to making a pulpy series.

This is just a bit weird though. It's only 4 episodes long, and it quickly rattles through sod all happening. It's written by Warren Ellis, who is a brilliant comic book writer, I can only assume he was a phoning this in. Dracula is barely in it, some of the dialogue is bizarre and plays like it was written by a 14 year old trying to sound pithy and cool. Loads of ill fitting swearing with Belmont played this strange world weary sarcastic hard man who literally utters the line 'please stop hitting my testicles'.

I can't believe they called this a series though. It's 4 episodes, 25mins each, and nothing happens. It's like the pilot episode of a series, but for some reason made feature length and chopped into 4 bits and abruptly ends. It's like they ran out of money.

The animation is strange as well. I don't really like the anime motion style but the static look fits Castlevania, as so many game covers and posters over the years have been in that style. But here it's done cheaply somehow and the movement has that jerky framey look anime often has, and the characters look flat. It looks rushed and half arsed.

But of a disappointment. Anime fans might get more out of it, but as is it's a pretty rote anime of a third of a better story. It has been renewed for a longer series so it might be better as a whole, as is...eh... It's not long?

Also, fans of the wider gaming world will have a strong sense of déjà vu when they see Trevor Belmont...

Watched reggie Yates extreme something or other on Netflix, it was ok, obviously depends on what you think of reggie and I do t mind him and fair play to him he puts himself in some awkward positions, 6 episodes, 3 in South Africa 3 in Russia, the Russian ones are better, they really are nutters, I think what was apparent in both countries was how bad knife crime is

Neil Gaiman has hinted at casting news for Good Omens in the next few days.

Will absolutely live and die on how well they cast it. Every single character has to be bang on. And no Americanisation please.

Please don't **** it up.

Please..

I'm still interested largely due to the he fact that it's history, if it was pure fiction and they were in this position then I'd be unsure

I dunno, it has the whiff of 'Homeland' about it when Brody stopped being in it.

I'm sure it will still be decent, but Escobar was the show for me, now it will just be the DEA Vs various drug lords. Hope I'm wrong, becuase the first two seasons are brilliant TV.

Yeah my interest will come from finding out who those drug lords are, it needs to play more in to this actually happened element of the show, within the first couple of episode story they have to show the footballer being murdered imo

Finished the leftovers, just brilliant, jumped around and went off in so many different places but the ending was superb, the love boat episode, the scene in the penultimate episode where Kevin reads the untitled love story

i know a lot of people won't like it or get it but it's ridiculously underrated for me, how it's got I think 1 Emmy nomination is beyond me, Carrie coon and Justin Theroux should have had nods as well as best drama
