didnt haggis write the screenplay for casino royale?

just started to watch you only love twice and noticed that roald dahl wrote the screenplay! i knew he had been in the military but didnt know he'd done that

and you only live twice is my favourite bond film, watched thunderball yesterday which IMO is the 1st dip in the series, i dont think number 2 is a good character and the under water stuff hasnt aged well

Generally speaking, I don't think films need to "age well", provided they are not too reliant on spectacular effects. Twelve Angry Men is timeless, no remake could do anything to improve it.

The problem comes with genres like science fiction and technology-heavy stuff like the Bond movies, where they were doing stuff that was by definition cutting edge in its day - that inevitably gets left behind pretty quickly.

TBH though, I can overlook (or even enjoy) the dated bits if the film is enjoyable in other ways.

I would still love to see the Fleming Bond books filmed in the original milieu - the cold war era of the 50s, not transposed to the modern era.

Loving the bond channel ...just after noticing lazenby speaking to the camera (audience) in the opening scenes

The Fourth Wall

Still never seen OHMSS. I understand it's one of the better ones, but my outrage at the demise of Connery caused me to disregard it at the time.

IMO yeah its a good one with possibly the best scene in any bond film

iirc its a bit long and drags at times but its still nowhere near as bad as people make out

Just watched Killer Joe :o

Matthew McConaughey excellent as a polite psychopath. There are a few laugh out loud and WTF moments. William Friedkin is a sick man.

Still my movie of 2012 so far. Flawless.

Not a Bond fan so I was just wondering are all the films supposed to follow the same canon?

Does he really get a new love of his life every time and remain the same age from 60's to now, where the time difference is clearing shown by things like youtube being in the current film?

Or are you just not meant to think about it and take each film seperately?

I've always taken it as a set of ideals/themes/select characters that are shared throughout each film rather than as a continuation of any overall story. But if the same actor does more than one film, his films are like a pocket universe within that overall 'bond universe'.

There's not a Bond 'canon' as such. The films have never really attempted to make a definite time line and as such each film basically exists in it's own right. Occasionally there are nods to previous outings but theres rarely serious consistant thread through them (apart from recurring 'baddies' and organisations, SPECTRE and Quantum in the Craig outings, although even thats been ditched for the new one).

There is a school of thought that sought to make some form of logical progression out of the films and did so by suggesting that 'Bond' (and 007) is basically a codename, that is passed on to a new guy once the previous has had enough, and so the different actors are actually different guys who just so happen to have become 007 and all their escapades are canon to themselves, thus explaining in universe the different guys and lack of continuity.

This is obviously retarded however, and clearly the films are just largely standalone.
