Lion King remake has been given a bit of a mauling. It's been caught by the trap of these remakes - it's so faithful to the original it's basically a shot for shot remake, but with the charm all removed through the switch to realistic animals.

Can't say I'm surprised.

Dumbo just didn't work for me for similar reasons, nothing particularly wrong with it but just no reason for its existence. Aladdin I actually didn't mind at all and thought was ok, I'm sure I will see this at some point to make my own judgement.

I don’t get the current furore over remaking Disney cartoons into live action movies. Especially when they are direct lifts of their animated counterparts.

has the movie world completely dried up of original ideas?

never a fan of the Lion King anyway.

I saw Midsommar last night, it’s umm an experience - can’t decide if I like it or not. Gave me weird dreams....

spider-man far from home is a cracker!!

I went to see Midsommar on Wednesday and I’ll admit it was one of the strangest films I’ve ever seen!

As far as I understand this is also something to do with licensing (or at least Dumbo, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast is) and having to make the movies to renew it.

Strange not to have the IP/licence for their own films without a threat of expiration.

still find the idea odd.

Its the original stories that they have a limited license on I think. Either way all quite cynical.

Saying that I enjoyed Aladdin and I'm all up for the Lion King tech demo.

They're changing Mulan, looks like they've listened to the Chinese audience from the originals release

It could make it better...mulans songs are shit

The surprise for me is they haven't touched the little mermaid yet, that would be massive

They announced Halle Bailey (whoever she is) will play the mermaid only the other day.

caused a minor twitter meltdown as she looks nothing like the drawing.

China's a big market now. Big enough to have whole scenes added and changed to blockbusters. Mulan potentially is huge in China. They'll do whatever they think they need to to maximise the money there. Supposedly including dropping the whole whacky dragon sidekick that was Disney's thing through their 90s resurgence.

Little Mermaid is coming, casting has begun already. They all will be coming eventually. Look at Disney's catalogue, they're all money on the table. Shit, they even remade Pete's Dragon, and who on earth cares about Pete's Dragon?!

Haters gonna hate (especially if they are old and white)

I liked the Mulan trailer.

Why don't the muppets do another movie adaptation of a classic novel. I'd love to see that.

The last Muppets movie didn't do well enough at the box office. So feature films are going to be parked for a while you'd suspect. Best bet is a series on the Disney streaming service.

The Muppets doing an anthology series based on classic horror stories, like Dracula, Frankenstein, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Dorian Gray, and so on might work.

... see pornhub.

Could it be down to the Michael Jackson & R Kelly scandals?
