Exactly, the only reason for VAR is if something looks clearly off.

Otherwise, you're undermining the referee and destroying the flow and enjoyment of the game.

Howard Webb "We don't want to get to the stage VAR is running the game".

Too late chap!

A controlled sloppiness so far. We invite too much pressure upon ourselves - the goal was a cavalcade of individual errors. We looked sloppy from now on but always found space - two very good finishes for the goals too. Konsa organises the defence much better when he drifts into his natural position - it's very clear we need a right back in Jan.

Happy with 2 -1 at half time bearing in mind some of the  no shows again.

Lenget eventually got a cheer in the 40th minute for actually passing the ball not backwards or in field, he's not been good at tall today and partially due to him we are totally one sided.

Ramsey ? Clearly still no where near ready to start but gets the nod over zaniolo. He's doing badly yet again, and anonymous.

Moreno, can't do much as lenget refuses to pass him the ball and when he did have it, over ran or made the wrong decisions.

Would be far easier if lenget actually used his eyes and passed the ball to moreno as we wouldn't be so 1 dimensional.

Nice to see diaby get a goal, he again hasn't looked fit.

I’ve got Lee Hendrie saying SJMs best position is in the double pivot. The guy played the game and watches Villa every week, how can he talk such shite??

Because he was asked the leading question. So he thought that was the right answer. They're another level of thick pundits.

Carlos and Lenglet are exactly the sort of players we need to not be signing going forward.

Total luxuries. Bit of ability but an ounce of pressure is applied and they go to bits.

I'd play Konsa in the middle irrespective. Carlos can go RB.

Just need to get through this match with a win, then we’ll have Torres, Cash, Kamara, Tielemans, Digne all back in the next few weeks which will give us strength in depth for the later part of the season.

Plus maybe Buendia in April, any new January signing, and hopefully Ramsey back on form.

You don't seem that happy!

It’s been okay, but we need to improve defensively.

First goal, nice pass from Diego, cool head from Ollie and a nice pass, then a lovely touch from Bailey to set up a great strike into the roof of the net.
Then Moreno went to sleep allowing them in to equalise, so sloppy and Emery will be furious at how easily we are giving up chances. Great work from Watkins again for our second, nicely played their offside trap and picked out Diaby who finished cooly. Hope he can kick on and score more regularly now.

To be fair to Lenglet, you are probably not going to get much better as an emergency loan cover; he's basically a 5th choice CB. And although he's been playing in europe, its not ideal to be thrust into the first team due to Pau's injury during one of the busiest periods.

Ramsey is concerning me - had one decent run with the ball but apart from that caught on the ball repeatedly, poor passing, and i'm pretty sure it was him who lost the Burnley goalscorer

This Carlos + Lenglet pairing isn’t working at all defensively. Both decent on the ball, but we look far too vulnerable.

Juts need to get through 45 more mins and hopefully we have Torres and Cash back… plus possibly a new RB to give us a bit more depth.
