January Transfer Window 2024

Basically a prem/UCL version of Chester, Jedinak, Whelan, and Adomah.

Not going to light up the world but the occasional good game, professional in all aspects, and not going to go flying out of position.

For the right price I’d still happily take Kalvin Phillips. Could be solid in that role for 4-5 years.

No thanks because it’s not just the price but also the wages he’d want.

Having watched a decent amount of them in the UCL, you could probably take a lot of the Real Sociedad team and plant them right at Villa and they wouldn't look out of place at all. They play very similarly.

Zubimendi has been linked a lot to United but would be a great rotation option in the double pivot. But at 24, I don't know if he will be satisfied in being a rotation option. Takefuso Kubo in any of the wide roles or in the second striker role. Great dribbler and carrier of the ball.

Mentioned Kubo back in the a summer window, really good player not sure if we need him with Bailey, Ramsey and Diaby and then  Zaniolo who has the option to buy and probably cheaper value than Kubo. Zubimendi on the other hand  would be and excellent target if we secure champions league football then I think it would be realistic to target players like him as rotation options.

Also Bent on Talkshite said there's no way he gets a start ahead of current Villa midfield

No he wouldn’t, but Phillips could come in as a DM  for us without any real drop in quality - Vs Dendonker who is a massive drop from the first choice starters.  We need rotation options for all competitions that will maintain our level. At the right price and for the right wages, he’d be a v good signing - imo.

According to reports,  per week he's on as much or more than our highest paid player so that's that then

Villa heroes too. Man I enjoyed the championship years

Strange, isn't it? It was crushing to get relegated, but in retrospect, it was consistently the most fun time being a Villa fan over the last few decades, and several of the players from that time are club legends.

It also set in motion the course of events that led to the takeover by NSWE.

So in a few different ways, relegation was good for the club and the fans.

We wouldn't be happy with a nationalistic Russian player would we?

Have been thinking about this a lot. It's actually a pretty deep question.

Unpopular opinion - if he has his beliefs and doesn't try to push them on others I'm fine with it. I guarantee that for every supporter, a decent number of prem players, staff and management hold certain beliefs that the supporter would find objectionable.

I guess that I've got to the point where I accept that I regularly work with people who might have differering opinions towards race, religion, immigration, sexuality, etc but we can get a job done. Would we be happy with a nationalistic British player? A socialist? A Marxist? A neoconservative? A hardline Catholic or Muslim? An Israeli who supports their governments actions? A Palestinian who does the same?

It's all so tiresome.

Eggestein from Freiburg. I don’t care if he’s shit but I think he’d be a cracking signing for the bantz.

He looks good, but we had a good history of transfers from Olympique Marseilles, so why don't OM-let someone join us?
