Maybe the contract expires in June - and there could be some kind of clause where we have to use the kit for signings?

I have no doubt about that, but the fact the contract has since expired and now villa are making every effort to not show the kappa logo… it’s understandable to not give kappa free advertising, but it’s still a tad cringe to ruin all the pictures, just to hide a logo. They could of released the the full signing pictures a day or two earlier.  Or at least, got him in the new gear… be it the training gear at least

Story confirming Newcastle had agreed to a deal with Diego in January but Sevilla didn't want to sell him. Also Sevilla's director takes a shot at Villa!

Sevilla director Jose Maria Cruz de Andres has admitted that Diego Carlos wanted to join Newcastle back in January, but the La Liga side refused to let him go midway through the season.

Carlos was among Newcastle's top targets for the first transfer window under new ownership and personal terms were agreed with the centre-back, who wanted to make the move but was met with fierce resistance from Sevilla.

The Andalusian side stood firm and kept Carlos until this summer, when they then sold the 29-year-old to Aston Villa for around £26m - less than Newcastle were prepared to pay six months ago.

Speaking to Sport Witness, Cruz admitted Sevilla were not upset to have missed out on some extra money as the extra six months they got from Carlos were invaluable.

"We received a good offer in the winter market from Newcastle for Diego," Cruz said. “At that time, the player and the agent were very interested in the offer because it was a very good offer for them in terms of time of employment and salary for the player, and commission for the agent.

"We received a good offer from Newcastle, from a financial standpoint. But the problem was it was in the middle of the season and Carlos was very, very important at that time for us. We had no chance to replace Carlos [in January]. We had been suffering a lot during the season with many injuries, especially defenders.

“At the time, we were competing to win the league and had a chance to win the Europa League again, after being eliminated from the Champions League. The main reason to not accept the [Newcastle’s] offer was that it was not at the proper time.

"At the end of the season, we received a new offer from a different team. It was probably better than the first one for the player.

“He told us that we said it was not possible to sell him in the winter market, but we didn’t promise to sell him in the summer. We told them that when the season finishes, we will surely analyse offers. There was an offer and this is the reason for selling Diego Carlos, because we didn’t need to sell Carlos to balance the books.

“We wanted to keep Diego Carlos with us, but we understand that a player like Diego, 29, 30 years, it was a very good opportunity, probably not sporting wise, but in terms of money. We respect that because we understand that Diego has played very well for us.”

He isnt wrong in fairness. We are probably paying double/treble his wages and dont have European football

As said before if Spain or France had the Premier League money and Ramsey and Mings got better deals to play to sign for Osasuna or Reims we would be bitter too

I think Sevilla just added a bit too much Newcastle are desperate tax.

And Newcastle wouldn't pay 40 odd mill they wanted so they walked.

I actually don't think they went back in for him this summer as they were a bit bent outta shape after Sevilla tryed ripping them off.

I do think the fact they were midsession and trying to win the league themselves though is totally justifiable reason to do so. Imagine the reaction on here if we were in the mix and sold one of our starting 11 to some midtable German team in January.

What a bitter man. I guess fear and jealousy are driving his beliefs. Fear of his own supporters questioning him. 😂 He will happily take our cash in a heartbeat but spin the line that the player is all about money - simply to deflect from his failure to convince Carlos to stay. No Jose, you are about the dollar.

Diego also helped win them the Europa League too. Show some decorum and class - keep silent and respect Carlos' service to your club. No need for digs and false characterisations, especially from a director too. This guy needs to be more vocal about the uneven distribution of the La Liga cash going to Madrid and Barca, that is the big reason you struggle to hold on to your better players. Jose Maria Cruz de Andres is simply a lap dog for Real Madrid & Barcelona.

To be fair the shot at villa he's not wrong is he?

Sevilla are a CL side, he has a EL winners medal with them, we finished 14th

Sevilla are a better team, we are in a better league but that's a Sevilla and la liga problem not a Villa problem, will continue to happen
