That's one thing we seem to lack. Just seem to be missing the belief against these sides. We start the games on the back foot.

That Man United game seems a very, very long time ago :(

Not sure people are reading too much into the fact that we lost to Arsenal but Newcastle are beating them, means absolutely nothing, there will be teams we've beat but Newcastle have lost to.

Also since January 1st only Liverpool have taken more points than Newcastle, so if we're being criticized for not being as good as them recently then might as well criticize the whole league, Newcastle have been in unbelievable form, we shouldn't be measure against that.

Yeah Newcastle's turnaround has been incredible really. Feels like their January has completely galvanised the whole squad. Howe is doing a good job too.

That Targett lad has been inspiring

Its not about beating Arsenal. We never laid a finger on them after they had just got a midweek runaround by Liverpool

In theory,. we have very wealthy, motivated owners, and there's no reason we can't go toe to toe with Newcastle over the next few years.

So why does it feel like we're watching them go above us for the next 10+ years.

We badly need a Guimaraes type in our central midfield tbh. That's the sort of signing that's pushed them up a level considering they were playing likes of Shelvey and Issac Hayden in there not so long ago.

Howe has been quite ruthless on the quiet, culled Ciaran Clark from the squad in January when he'd been a regular under Bruce first 10 games and most of last season.

Just sums up the two managers really. One who just asks his players to put their boots on and run around a bit and the other actually coaches them on the training ground.

Yes, let's do a slow day on SSN segment.

I'll take a stab at it:

               Martinez

Cash   Gabriel    Mings    Digne

         Luiz         Partey

            Odegaard

 Saka                       Buendia

         Watkins/Ings

Newcastle look like they believe they are in the cusp of something big. We look like we believe might paddle along in mid table for the foreseeable.

The Newcastle players are all playing at 110%, because they have been sold the dream. No one wants to leave, if they carry on playing at 110%, they will have new contracts doubling, tripling there salaries. They know now where there bread is going to be buttered.

Our boys, think if they don't perform, we will do F*** all, i.e McGinn untouchable, or the grass will be greener elsewhere in the league.

Do you think Targett will be gagging to come back here, or play for Midtable (this season) Newcastle?

After Arsenal beat us they celebrated like mad because they knew it was a hard fought win. Pretty sure we wouldn't be having all this rubbish if Smith was still manager, or some other manager that there wasn't a strange agenda against, some of the fanatical hatred is like something you'd expect from the most bigoted Rangers or Celtic fans.

I think it's that disappointing run of games when we won three straight and then played very meekly v West Ham, Arsenal and Wolves and lost all three games.

Wolves have had a terrible end of the season yet will finish comfortably above us and Arsenal and West Ham been up and down in form.

We won't be challenging for top 7 anytime soon unless we start believing we can take some points off them next season like other teams around us have done recently.

If people are wondering why likes of Brentford, Palace and Brighton will be finishing above us that's why.

Smith-Rowe is a better player than Buendia. Ramsdale/Martinez is very close - I'd have said Martinez all day, last season. Not so much this season.

I just feel like if we had have signed him it just wouldn't have worked out. We can't seem to get midfielders right.

I think we should be measured against ourselves. Since investing in January, we've, at best, stayed still.

The lack of belief is exactly what Gerrard is looking to resolve by the signings of Coutinho and Digne. Players that have won things and played at the very highest level of club competition....expect more of the same signings.

As Ian Wright is currently saying, 4th was always out of reach for Arsenal. They've done well to get this far.

But Manchester United being 10 points off 4th is actually hilarious. They signed Sancho, Varane and Ronaldo in the summer too
