Brilliant man management. As explained in Buendia thread

Right. Strange this 'brilliant man management' has been noticeable only by its absence up to this point in Gerrard's tenure.

They can play together, it’s just not very effective.

Then sell one, we aren't at the stage where we can have two £40m players rotation for one spot when need to upgrade elsewhere. We don't have European football to deal with, we need a strong 11.

Nonsense. He has put down a marker with his performance on Saturday. Now he has to see how Coutinho responds.

I read your opinion of what has happened, it’s a valid opinion.  We don’t know if it right or wrong.  Buendia has been waiting for a number of games to get in and performs brilliantly but gets dropped.  I wouldn’t mind if over the last 4 to 6 games they had taken turns but that hasn’t been the case, Buendia has been sitting it out which goes against your opinion of the situation.

Who knows, maybe your thought is right and they both knew, maybe not! We’ll never know.  Just seems an inform player gets dropped after a start.

You're a disgrace. You're the clown. Not Gerrard.

Buendia is now in line to get the start against Palace unless Coutinho can perform tonight.

We've 5 games in 15 days too

Emi should be starting all 3. He's not started a game in 2 months and when he does he's the best player on the pitch with the most quality and the most workrate.

It's a disgrace.

Konsa starting this game is a bit of a joke, isn’t it? Our bench compared to Liverpool’s pretty much symbolises the gulf in squad depth and quality between the two sides. Not optimistic tonight but hoping for a far fetched draw.

Konsa starting proves we really need a new CB at this point.

CVByrne proves that a broken clock is right twice a day. Some Villa fans are still stuck in the 90s when you played your “best” team and didn’t adapt to who you’re playing and where. “But we won the league in 1981 using 13 players. Times have changed lads, sorry to break it to you.

Clutching a bit with this one.

I wouldn’t sign Coutinho permanent so not arguing there.

We were more than happy for Gerrard to use his connection with Phil to get him in Jan. But now we want him dropped ( at the time they are negotiating with Barca for a permanent deal ) for a game that will mean an awful lot to Coutinho.

From listening to and reading Gerrards words before and after the Burnley game i knew this would happen. Disappointed for Emi but also understand the thinking. 5 games in 15 days means that Phil will be back on the bench at some point amd we might find both of them playing together at some point .

Plus if Phil is ineffectve Emi will get the last 30 mins tonight.

Its a squad game and sometimes we will have to accept the decisions of the manager however much they frustrate us

Hahaha lets see how this plays out. I think that too is madness against liverpool as we wont have a lit of the ball so not sure why we need two strikers.

However i appreciate the way both played so can see the logic in that. Nakamba hasnt played more than what 15 mins in 5 months amd you throw him to start against liverpool?? Surely if you was going to do this you would have given him more minutes vs burnley?

Rotating players with one start in 2 months in which he was motd and subbed. Right.

Plus we've had such a tough long season with that cup run and the European nights...
