They are happy to sell in the summer if we had waited like with Guilbert

Instead we blew 25 million on a poor alternative

If we sell Targett in the summer we will still need another LB anyway. Hickey could be perfect because he can play both sides and probably won’t expect to start every game.

Pretty sure if Hickey is giving up starting in Serie A he will expect to start in the PL otherwise it's a backward step.  I'd rather have kept Targett and signed Hickey instead of Digne, even if we loaned him back there until the summer.

He turned down Bayern for Bologna to play every week. No chance he is coming here as backup or to rotate

All this backup stuff makes me roll my eyes.

Surely you can sell it to a player worth buying, ‘I see your ability to play first choice for us but you will have to battle it out with the players we have’

We don’t have any untouchable players outside of the GK.

When you have an untouchable player it is hard to sign someone for their place, I.e striker at Spurs

While true we have though just spent 25 million and 125k a week on a left back which is a specialist positiom and because if this is no chance he will be backup next season regardless of form

I’m not convinced buying the best players in the championship would be worthwhile next season, that really didn’t work first time round. I think we need to keep the majority of the squad together - obviously Coutinho would be gone and Watkins sold. I can’t see who else would be sought after, possibly Ramsey if one of the bigger clubs wish to take a punt.

Going to be a lot of pressure to get us back up first time of asking - wonder if Gerrard will remain in charge.

Why do you think those two are obvious moves, Coutinho gone and Watkins sold?

Newcastle United Still Undecided On Keeping Hold Of Loan Star (insidefutbol.com)

Quote

Newcastle United remain undecided about signing Matt Targett on a permanent deal from Aston Villa in the summer, amidst considerations of bringing in a more progressive left-back option.

You think Digne is poor? Why? He has played for top European clubs like PSG and Barcelona. I don’t think we’re in a position to be turning our noses up at him

I’d have a serious look at Gordon if Everton go down.

I’m not sure, he has something but I’ve watched him a lot this season and reminds me of El Ghazi too much.

Gordon seems to be another one of these players that's rated more by fans of other clubs than fans of his own team, I've looked on Grandoldteam quite a lot recently and a lot of them have been calling for him to be dropped. Plus i don't think he's much better, if at all than what we already have, and don't think he's good enough that he'd be worth bringing in to block the pathway for some of our own youngsters.
