Someone who is 6'4, only makes short passes, wins every header and does big crunching tackles, I think. Or at least that's how I've always understood the term.

Get Brock Lesnar in

I'm not really sure where this "destroyer" type of footballer comes from or what it even means? What do people expect, someone who just runs around pushing people over or something?

It's just the distinction between someone like Nakamba (destroyer) whose main skill is his workrate and hard tackling, or someone like Dougie who looks to intercept more and has more of a passing game.

The ideal really is a player like Dougie with a higher work rate and a bit more physicality. Which is what Kamara looks like.

A destroyer, I guess, is a player who breaks up and disrupts the oppositions play before it gets to our defence. Then gives it to the ballers to do their thing. I think Kamara does, that, but is also somewhat of a quarterback.

He might play a simple ball to the nearest midfielder or Coutinho / Buendia or release the striker(s) with a raking 50 yard pass. He can do it all.

Pushing people over isn’t enough. We can only settle for the total destruction of an opponent, so that by the end of the game, or however long they can last until total destruction engulfs them, they leave the theatre of conflict barely able to function as a footballer. We need a “non mas” type of surrender for anyone who dares to confront The Villa Destroyer.

wonderful composure and vision, as well as some nice tackles/physicality.

Tell you what tho, its gonna be a sight to behold watching his face when he pings a ball up to watkins.....and the ball comes off Watkins in to low orbit.

According to Wikipedia:

In naval terminology, a destroyer is a fast, maneuverable, long-endurance warship intended to escort larger vessels in a fleet, convoy or battle group and defend them against powerful short range attackers

So basically he has to be fast and maneuverable with plenty of stamina and defend against powerful attackers.

It's a player who can influence a game with a spread of high yield torpedoes denying battleships room to maneuver, whilst also providing an antisubmarine / aerial denial capability.
