Philippe Coutinho

So it’s costing us roughly £15m then. That’s a very expensive loan, but if you compare it signing someone as good, that would probably cost you £50-85m in transfer fees and millions on top of that in wages.

Yes, it’s a costly loan but it’s still unreal value. £15m for a player this good for 18 months?!? Yes please!

why is everyone saying we are discussing a buy option, if its an 18 month loan that takes him to the end of his contract!?

Was six months loan originally with buy!

I'm genuinely a bit lost, will we negotiate a perm contract with him after 12 months?

We sign him on loan now for 18 months and he receives his 380k a week. In the contract we have an option inserted that we can trigger a permanent move to Villa in 18 months time at X £££ per week. In 18 months he will be a free agent as his Barca contract will have expired. This will stop Countinho leaving for another club on a freebie. If he is outstandingly successful with Villa, he will have a queue of clubs wanting to sign him and we wouldn't want a bidding war

Apparently we are very interested in Kalvin Philips. Cant see it happening but it’s the kind of DMF we’re looking for.

Good....I'm coming alive.

Ross McCormack and Scott Hogan spring to mind for what were basically 3 year and 4 year loan deals.

He is out injured till March. That would be a strange buy. That said, wasn't Downing in crutches when he signed for us

Yes after Petrov smashed him up. We got him back to full fitness and form then he **** off at the first opportunity. Off topic but I never did like Downing.
