It is a big problem, our target players can get a move to Ch LGE clubs and we get no where, not sure if some will buy into it but working for Gerrard is probably a draw we haven't had before, might/hopefully be a factor.

Eventually we will reach the Everton quandary.

Need to sign quality players, but can't quite attract the "elite players". The mistake Everton made was overpaying for the likes of Siggurdsson, Iwobi etc and getting journeymen / elite rejects like James Rodriguez.

You are probably right. He is a player I would like to sign. Could u imagine the neighbours seeing him in claret & blue 🤣

What was his shirt number at SHA? Hilarious if we signed him and gave him that squad number.

On the CDM vacancy, just checked his stats for this season on FB Ref & Cheick Doucouré is still excellent. Briefly linked last summer, would not mind at all if he moved to Villa after AFCON.

Villa are too smart for this. I think the investment in youth is a nod to understanding this issue and it hopefully pays dividends in 4- 6 windows time, we haven't had this many prospects for some time.

It's a bit like a viscous circle though that just plays into the hands of the elite, after Chelsea and Citeh the the rule changes regarding spending money have made it so hard for us. FFP wasn't bought in to protect the game it was the elite closing the latch to prevent others from catching/overtaking them.

We need those Emi1 players, there are gems out there that are talent/value sweet spots, we just need to find them first.

Yeah the club is too well run to fall into the Everton trap. We have the ability to have a smaller squad of signed players because of the youth set up. This means our player amortisation and our wage bill can be lower on average to a team who needs to sign their entire squad.

We also have only Wesley on the books who is a negative asset. AEG, Trez, Guilbert all will be easy to move on for example and booking profits too on their remaining amortising transfer fee's.

We need to keep the full first team squad at around 22/23 players with some talented youth added into that. Take this season we've JJ, Chuk, Archer, JPB as the additions. This means we give youth a chance and don't have first team "squad" players. We need a first team squad where there is actual competition for the first team place.

Bogarde is a Rolls-Royce of player, wasn't on the bench against Brentford because he's recently been to Holland and rules put in place because of covid meant he wasn't allowed to take part.

If all true (not doubting your knowledge in the slightest, I just do not know how/where to check this) I'd fancy it's not just a coincidence and that we really do have experts in every department running our baby. Having our books in good order gives us the best chance of funding dream incomings without any irregularity, it's just convincing the players to come (more likely convincing greedy agents) that would.give us the progression we meant.

Stupid Lerner and Zia giving the scum6 a 10 year head start is so annoying.

He turns 18 tomorrow. If we sign Gomez on loan and then permanently in Summer. We extend Hause contract by 1 year, Bogarde is on loan next season. We should be set for CB with Mings / Konsa / Gomez / Hause then Bogarde

Something that Bogarde has to his advantage is that he can also play in midfield, and he's not just a defender that can do a job in midfield, but he's very good in that position, and not just as a traditional DM type sitting in front of the back four making tackles, as one might expect from someone who normally plays as a centre-back, when he plays in midfield he genuinely has a good all round game, comfortable on the ball, good passing, and can carry it forward as well, basically when he plays in midfield he looks a natural in that position.

Not "doing a Everton" :D ⬆️

Depending on outcome you'd could probably argue that both Ings and Digne could fall into the category of overpaying "elite" players in the wrong age.

Digne fills a need thou depending on how interested he is to play.

Some think he’s good enough to play CDM - either way we need to tie him down on a long term contract ASAP.

I'm pretty sure some of those Everton old boys are on more than double what Ings is on but yeh he's borderline same.

Ings it at least our highest paid player on a reported £120k-125k/w. Think I read that Digne is on £120k/w as well.

James was on £200k/w or something like that 😬

Well Ings signing made sense for many reasons, we had no real back up for Watkins and we think they can play together. Also he was signed on a 3 year deal which covers the 3 years the Grealish sale money is included in our FFP accounting. Digne could be similar if we signed him on a 3 & 1/2 year deal with an option of 1 more. He'll have just turned 32 at the end of that contract.

Yeah think Digne and Ings on about the same 120k.

I imagine some of the Everton signings made sense at the time for them too. James could have been a fantastic signing for a club like them IF he could be bothered to maintain the quality he had for the first month or so.

But he didn't and he's a perfect example to why I wouldn't go anywhere near Coutinho (not that he's a possible signing anyway) who's been mentioned here.
