Villarocker Posted November 19, 2020 Share Posted November 19, 2020 Seriously, I work with this bloody thing and have spent the last six weeks of my working life talking about nothing other than PS5 consoles and how the f**k we were going to get them in and out of the place where I work - 150,000 units of the shite! You wouldn't believe the relief this week when it all shipped out. I bought the original playstation but, through spending years working with them, and all the hassle they cause me, I'll never buy one again. First impressions... It's a really, really, really quality bit of kit. It is big. Really big. But it's not as dauntingly huge as many made it out to be. The controller is really nice. The rumble is fantastic, a leap on from the stuff Nintendo did with the Switch, the triggers are awesome with the variable tension depending on context, and the motion is, err, motion. It feels good in the hand and the grip being made up of tiny, tiny versions of the classic PlayStation symbols is a nice touch. It's silent, fast, and even a brief play of Astrobot shows its graphically a behemoth. It's not perfect - they've fiddled with the OS and not for the better. The clearest example being the hold PS button to bring up the side menu for things like powering off. That's gone. It actually took me a minute to work out how to turn the it off from the menus. The muscle memory there is going to be some effort to overcome I think. Generally I don't think it's OS layout is great and suspect it's very much been chucked out the door minimum polish once they got it to functional. I also have an intense dislike for there being a microphone on the controller and quickly muted it. But overall, it's a really, really, really nice bit of kit. dubbs Posted November 19, 2020 Share Posted November 19, 2020 Arrived about 7. Setting up i made the amateur error of not pushing the hdmi cable all the way and missed the 1st turn on sequence! Then it said it was going to take 50 hours to download the system update. Managed to sort that and now I'm waiting for games to install. Also installing MM at the same time and was a touch noisy, but I’ve read can be a little when installing games. Im not entirely sure I like all the rumble, it’s very clever but my hands felt a bit tingly afterwards. Astrobot, whilst good was a bit meh having played the VR version.
