ender4
Quote Man United goalkeeper Sergio Romero is reportedly set to leave Old Trafford over the summer amid interest from Aston Villa. The 33-year-old is reportedly unhappy with the way he was treated by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer towards the end of the 2019-20 season. However, it is reported that United will demand a transfer fee in the region of £8m-£10m for the services of the Argentine shot-stopper. https://www.republicworld.com/sports-news/football-news/man-united-transfer-news-united-price-tag-on-romero-villa-interest.html
ender4
https://redrants.com/aston-villa-and-everton-keen-on-manchester-united-outcast/ Quote According to The Athletic, Aston Villa are keen on signing the Manchester United goalkeeper, Sergio Romero. Manchester United are holding out an asking price of £8-10 million and are looking to sell him instead of loaning him out. Everton have also been interested in signing the 33-year old Argentine with an objective of providing some quality competition to Pickford in goal. Manchester United are holding out an asking price of £8-10 million and are looking to sell him instead of loaning him out. Everton have also been interested in signing the 33-year old Argentine with an objective of providing some quality competition to Pickford in goal. However, Everton won’t be willing to pay that amount for a second-choice goalkeeper and are instead more inclined towards a free transfer for the spot. Villa want to boost their goalkeeping department after losing out on Pepe Reina due to the completion of his loan move. Romero will definitely keep both Tom Heaton and Orjan Nyland on their toes. The 33-year-old currently earns £100,000 per week at Old Trafford, and that could be a stumbling block as far as a move to Villa Park goes. Aston Villa can’t afford to pay that much to the Argentine shot-stopper and that could certainly turn out to be a stumbling block in any potential moves out of Old Trafford. https://theathletic.com/2034025/2020/09/02/sergio-romero-manchester-united-transfer-aston-villa/ Behind paywall so can't quote article. KenjiOgiwara
Wouldn't be a transfer window without a rb and gk. Rb sorted. All adds up.

VT Supporter Rodders Posted September 2, 2020 VT Supporter Share Posted September 2, 2020 and when Heaton is back to match fitness? two 30+ keepers both deserving first team football. It's one thing to be a number 2 at United, he won't want no.2 here. Odd link for me

Surely they aren't paying him that much to be a back up? That's utterly ridiculous if true. I'm not sure we should have anything to do with this. 33 is an okay age for a keeper, but £10m and anything close to those wages for someone who's mainly been a backup for the last decade seems bad business to me. We signed Heaton for less than that last summer and he was far more proven at Premier League level.

I read that in other threads so no idea where the speculation comes from
ramshackler
Listen, Romero is a superb goalkeeper. Everytime he has been called upon for united he has been outstanding. Him and Heaton will both think they can be number 1, good competition. Plus Heaton is injured alot, so at very least it's good for us. Fee is an absolute snip for GK of that quality
villa89
Wages would be the problem. We shouldn't be paying a goal keeper 100k a week. He went to united for the money, he knew he wouldnt be picked ahead of de gea.
rodders0223
I rate him highly. I don't doubt the £100k salary, international goalkeeper sacrificing himself to be a No.2.

One of them is not going to be playing. With Romero, Manchester United are spending 550k a week on goalkeepers.
MrBlack
Maybe he did his career the wrong way round. Went for the pay day early on, and now looking to end it playing first team football on a lower salary?
hippo
Don't know a lot about him - but another older keeper ? - I would have tried for the geezer from Arsenal , but given his recent form Im guessing they aren't keen to sell.
