I really hope this blows up in all their faces as they rally around this fool for putting many lives at risk by breaking the rules he helped create.

You'd think that Mary Wakefield's brother who also lives in London would have been a more appropriate first port-of-call for emergency childcare than a drive across the country.

I might be wrong here, but it seems like he travelled to the other end of the country go see his parents, got busted. Now he’s trying to construct a made up story to justify it and it’s looking more and more ridiculous by the hour.

Dominic Cummings has said he doesn't care if his lockdown breaching trip to Durham looked good or not.

The senior governmental advisor emerged from his home this morning and answered reporters' questions about the journey.

When asked if it looked good, he said: “Who cares about good looks?

"It’s a question of doing the right thing. It’s not about what you guys think.”

Earlier today Downing Street backed Mr Cummings in a statemet.

No10 said he believed he "behaved reasonably and legally" when travelling more than 250 miles from his London home to his parents' house in Durham, a trip which came as the Government urged Britons to stay home to save lives.

No10 appeared to accuse the police of lying as a spokesman for the Prime Minister claims police didn't speak to Mr Cummings or his family.

That's despite a Durham police spokesman stating last night officers spoke to the owners of the home and explained self-isolation and essential travel guidelines "to the family".

The lockdown visit when "known to be infected" with Covid-19 was "most unwise", the county's acting police and crime commissioner said as he backed the officers on Saturday.

Amid calls for the Prime Minister to explain what he knew about the visit, a Downing Street spokesman said: "Owing to his wife being infected with suspected coronavirus and the high likelihood that he would himself become unwell, it was essential for Dominic Cummings to ensure his young child could be properly cared for.

So Cummings wife was showing some symptoms but not confirmed to have covid19, he is well but worried he might get the virus his wife may or may not have.

So he drives to the other end of the country to off-load his child (who may have the virus) to his elderly parents... and despite it breaking all the rules it doesn’t matter, and he doesn’t care what it looks like.

Are the police going to save the day here and question (and hopefully charge) him?

It blatantly breaks the rules that they themselves set out. It’s embarrassing that they’re trying to defend it.

It’s clearly a regimented defence as well. Every Tory minister is tweeting it today

This is rapidly unravelling.

I was just reading that Skegness and Mablethorpe councils are opening their beach front car parks and toilets but council also issues the “stay away” message. It’ll be packed Sunday and Monday for sure.

What a mess, and the example from the leaders is not exactly best practice.

Grant just started his defence of Cummings by saying the important thing is that he stayed in one place and that’s what happened on is occasion.

What the ****? 😂

Their defence is that he HAD to go for the welfare of the child.

Are they really suggesting the Prime Minister’s chief aide wouldn’t be able to get support for his child if he needed it in London?

Basically now saying the rules are up for interpretation by everyone.

Embarrassing just to make excuses for Cummings
