So many were defending DS and looking for him to be given more time and saying he should not be sacked. He was sacked and Villa is the better for it. Mings is too error prone for Villa, the sooner he is replaced the better imo and I really hope it is this summer. I expect when he is replaced with a less error prone defender then people will realise how much better we are. We have the evidence right in front of us how we play when he is on the bench. It hasn't been good. Given that we just signed Hause to a long term deal I doubt the clubs plan is to bring in a 3rd LCB. I love when a player is underperforming the immediate reaction is to just replace him like Villa have a bottomless well of money to pull from. Last season we were something like 80% of wage to turnover and given our recruitment that # has only gotten worst. Hause makes things easy for mings as hause takes on the physical challenge which is often mings downfall by concentrating on the player rather than the play. Our squad is it till the end of the season so while mings does mings it normally once or twice a game, we know it happens and have to accept it. Just take his stand out moments (negative & positive) from that game: - Header from corner he should have got more on at at 0-0, huge chance to open the scoring - Gets something on the ball but not enough as Rodrigo pinches it and plays in James, who still had plenty to do - Header that whistled just wide from another corner, should have scored again - Should have done better for their 2nd, no idea how that just fell onto James’ head but Ty is at part culpable, shouldnt have allowed that to happen - Great turn in the box, gets to the byline and holds off the defender before cutting back, Digne should score for 4-2 - Few marauding runs out of defence bypassing Leeds midfielders and winning us freekick in dangerous area - Top clearance off the line from Struijk header, then another clearance out and another header out for a corner - Panics and swipes at a ball off balance under no pressure to gift Llorente the equaliser The guy was involved in everything, its unfortunate he’s involved in all their goals but he still put in a captains performance and on another day, its not beyond the realms of possibility that he has 2 goals and an assist to his name and we’re all waxing lyrical. I thought Konsa was worse and wasnt getting involved. Watch him during the bit of play that led to James hitting the bar. Hope he comes back with a big performance Sunday. Chambers has the chance now in these next 2 to strike a good understanding with Mings, might give Gerrard a selection decision if he does well. Yes he is a good defender most of the time but his errors are too frequent and they are costing us points. James still has lots to do once he gets the ball and you wouldn’t bet on him to score from that position. Very true and if it wasn't for his errors we would waxing lyrical about him. If you look at Mings for England he is immaculate. The game is slower. I know he has less to do because England normally play against weaker teams but in the Euro’s he was unbelievably solid. And two DM’s. This season the whole team looks weaker defensively. Watkins isn’t pressing like last season. Our midfield is getting bypassed a little easier.
