Excellent post. +

But logically why would they not already be using the most competent refs in the country? I've seen no evidence that there are better ones in the Championship from our experience there. Where else are they hiding? Refereeing in the PL is really about being fit enough to keep up with some of the fittest athletes in the world and getting into the right position to see what's happening. That's really tough. Even if you are fit enough you can sometimes get blind-sided, not anticipate something or look at the wrong player at the wrong time. Add to that, football is probably the sport where cheating is most common, from diving and feigning injury down to small matters such as claiming a corner or throw in that isn't yours. You then get dog's abuse non-stop from thousands of people just for doing it.
Davkaus
I could forgive mistakes like this with a single chance to see or in real time. Calling that Sheffield United goal offside should be a career ender. It's absolutely indefensible.

VAR has done nothing wrong, the guy looking at it has done nothing wrong the man who made the decision at the start of the season that his big toe being offside is a decision that should be made is to blame, that is how he interprets the offside rule and he now has the technology to implement it that why VAR isn't working in the PL but is doing ok every where else, we are being **** stupid with it mike Riley's head should roll long before VAR does
Chindie Posted November 9, 2019 VT Supporter Share Posted November 9, 2019 The offside calls are becoming absurd. Firminho last week, that Sheffield United call today. They aren't offside. There's nothing there. All this is doing is showing that the offside rule isn't compatible with it as things stand. The rule was designed to stop goal hanging, not to have goals ruled out because with 5 minutes and freeze frame reviews and a micrometer, plus some imaginary lines, you can kinda argue that the strikers laces where a millimeter offside for a microsecond. It's shit.

sne
Another goal scratched off for a (possible) molecular level offside. We want to have fewer goals in football right? So in the words of Borat, Great Success.
Zatman
The Spurs defender shoulder looks to be closer to the goal than Lundstram fingers Its a waste of time and I genuinely think its turning people off the game
sne
Handball on a Liverpool defender. no penalty given, Plop goes on to score on the counter. VAR check, no penalty goal stands. At least we know what tomorrows paper will be focusing on.
NoelVilla
Another decision that look very wrong to me. Looked like obvious handball to me.

Must have seen the handball but decided it didn’t merit a penalty

chappy
Man City should’ve had a penalty instead going a goal behind and then Salah was offside for the second! VAR making up for the Firmino goal last weekend?

Everything about the sport leads up to that euphoric moment of putting the ball in the net, and it’s robbing that moment.
