I disagree, I think they are the most talented footballers in the country for a reason, they play for the national team. They weren't a disgrace like you allude to rodders0223, they gave their all in my opinion, like they always have in the past

They were a disgrace. The most talented of course but talent isn't everything. There is something fundamentally wrong with the players and characters we produce nowadays. Nice little players, no backbone.

What do you think it is that is fundamentally wrong with them? How do you think this can be corrected?

I don't think that is just our academy. Look at England at the Euros, just a bunch of pampered 5 a side footballers.

It could be the type of player our talent spotters look for....I don't want to be too critical, its like teaching my grandmother to suck eggs....They know more about talent spotting than me.

Duncan Edwards was born on our door step.....even if another one came along, I'm not sure we would spot him, even if we looked at the fictitious him.

We seem too focused singularly on technical ability and hey, nothing wrong with that.....but there is a bit more to this game of ours than just that.

A whole lot unfortunately.

Bring back the mavericks, players who can think for themselves, players who act like men and not man children, players who can stand up, think for themselves on and off the pitch. Just look at Kane, pressure got on him and he forgot how to do a simple thing like strike a football.

You only have to look at Jack to see the type of player and personality youth football breeds nowadays.

I see where you're coming from rodders0223, I think you make some well constructed points there. I think Kane is an outstanding English striker, his performances over the past couple of years for Tottenham have been superb, he has yet to translate that form to the international stage but I think he will do in the not too distant future.

As for Grealish, he could be an outstanding player for both us and England. I have faith him in that he will stay out the headlines off the field. For me he is the best player that the academy has produced in recent times, most posters will probably disagree like usual

Don't beat yourself up........... let us do it......just joking:)

You do a good job keeping us abreast of the academy.....its a specialist area.

You are much too enlightened for here.:)

.....was it shanks who said "I look at the man first, then the player"?

I think it just mirrors, what kids are generally these days.....There are always exceptions, but they rely to much today on third parties.....mollycoddled.

usually their parents.

I think Hepburn-Murphy would score goals, and I think he'd actually offer something a little different for a few teams.

Northampton Town is the perfect example for me. There 2 main strikers are Richards (34) and Revell (33). Both are well travelled and Richards scoring record is fantastic but they are getting on and Hepburn-Murphy is the perfect foil for a shake up. They only have 4 strikers on their books and ones on loan, the other has 7 goals in 48 games or something so nothing astonishing. He's been someone villa fans have been aware of since Sherwood now and i think it's time he got out there like Grealish and Robinson did and mix it up.

I certainly wouldn't be against it skarroki, it would be good for his development, I also think he'd rise to the challenge, not only is he a brilliant footballer but he's a very nice, funny guy

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3898834/Rangers-target-Aston-Villa-youngster-Rushian-Hepburn-Murphy.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

Rangers have emerged as a potential destination for Rushian Hepburn-Murphy should his contract stand-off with Aston Villa go unresolved, Sportsmail understands.

Villa are trying to tie down the talented youngster to a new deal given his current terms, signed in September 2015, expire next summer but so far discussions are at an impasse.

Rangers are understood to be monitoring the situation and may try to take advantage of FIFA rules that enable out-of-contract players under the age of 24 to move across the border to Scotland for minimal compensation.

In the summer Mark Warburton signed Jordan Rossiter from Liverpool and Joe Dodoo from Leicester using the regulations at a combined cost of £500,000.

Had either moved to another English club it would have meant a tribunal fee running into the millions.

Hepburn-Murphy, the 18-year-old striker, is one of the hottest prospects at Villa, having made his Premier League debut under Tim Sherwood as a substitute at Sunderland in March 2015.

He also appeared off the bench against Newcastle in May but his only first-team appearance this season came against the same opponents in September.

Villa have splashed out around £29million on Ross McCormack and Jonathan Kodjia, and are well-stocked with forwards, meaning Hepburn-Murphy’s game-time this season has come in Under 23 games, where he has scored four goals.

Hepburn-Murphy was superb in finding the net twice in Monday night’s Premier League 2 win over Blackburn, in front of manager Steve Bruce and a host of watching scouts from rival clubs.

Villa were keen to get Hepburn-Murphy to commit in the summer and he may have gone on loan to get first-team football had fresh terms been agreed before deadline day.

Now it is understood a number of agencies are vying to represent the England youth international and one sees an ultimate pathway to Rangers.

Even though Hepburn-Murphy is happy at the club he first joined as a nine-year-old and could well commit his future to Villa, should talks continue to stall he would be entitled to sign a pre-contract agreement with a non-English side in January.

I know it's only the Daily fail but I really hope that we sort this lad out and tie him down to a decent contract . From what I have seen of him he's gonna be of a decent standard .

Why on earth would he even leave a championship club for a Scottish team. Load of rubbish.

Hasn't worked out too badly for sinclair so far, Playing every week in front of 50,000, Champions league football & the chance to win something.

We can offer precisely none of that
