sharkyvilla
Fantastic result, let's hope for a couple more quickly so we can relax a bit towards the end of the season.
Popular Post Xela
I have found some of the criticism of Sherwood actually unbelievable. Villa fans have amazingly short memories even for football fans. We were dreadful under Lambert and we were a totally sunken ship. Admittedly the couple of games before the Spuds game today weren't great, but we were still playing better than we played under Lambert all season and we are reaping the awards with results like this. We are Aston Villa, unfortunately we're not very good and so we're not going to beat everyone but we are now fighting everyone we face and are picking up goals and points along the way as a result. The guy is an inexperienced manager who has come into what I think is the toughest job in the league with a squad who were totally shot to bits. In hardly any time at all, he has turned it around, filled everyone with confidence and got Benteke scoring. Our team was previously a group of no-hopers and in only a couple of months we are now able to beat a team like Spurs and deserve it. I think what he has achieved so far is incredible and is above and beyond what I was expecting and he deserves buckets more credit and respect than he gets IMO. Spot on It is so frustrating that there is a very small minority who seem to want Sherwood to fail. We are unrecognisable from the team he inherited from the previous manager. We are scoring goals, winning games and the vibe from the club seems so much more positive. Sherwood is going to make mistakes, no one is perfect, but he has done a very good job so far. Popular Post markavfc40
I can't praise the guy highly enough. On the face of it the results and performances haven't been spectacular until you then take into account the absolute shambles he inherited. We were absolutely dire in terms of creating chances and scoring goals and looked totally devoid of any ideas in an attacking sense. That team that walked off the pitch against Hull just two months ago looked absolutely shattered and totally rock bottom in terms of confidence. I have to say I have found this tread quite frustrating to read over the last couple of weeks. It is as though what he inherited had been pushed onto the back burner for some and made a little irrelevant. For me he inherited a monumental task in trying to instill some confidence into players with none at all and in trying to get a team that could hardly create a decent chance into one that could score goals and put other teams on the back foot. He has taken on a side that could not score for love nor money and in 8 league games with exactly the same squad has overseen us score the same amount of goals we had in 25 games under the previous manager. We are now playing decent football and setting up to go after the three points on offer in every game. Of course he has made mistakes but given the shambles he inherited over all so far I simply can't knock him. With a little better rub of the green and one or two less poor individual performances or individual errors we could also easily have had 3 or 4 more points. Under the previous manager, certainly over the last year, in the main despite who was or wasn't in the team, who was or wasn't out injured or suspended, we served up tripe pretty much week in week out. Under Sherwood performances have in the main been good and I get the impression that had we been slightly more fortunate injury wise, certainly in defense, then I think that alone would have secured more points. For me given what he inherited and what he has faced in terms of injuries since he arrived Sherwood has so far done an excellent job. Long may that continue. Popular Post sexbelowsound
You really can't underestimate the importance of his enthusiasm and unwavering positivity. Even when the players didn't believe in themselves he made them just through personality alone. The man has massive potential.
bose
Fantastic win today and I give full credit to Sherwood for that. The players looked fired up and we looked very organised. I think that we are maybe four points from being safe and we'll have no trouble getting more than that in our last five games. They guy is not without his faults but he's getting us safe from the drop which was his first and main objective.

Wainy316
He has potential to do a very good job but I think his ceiling may be O'Neill, Redknapp level. Similar kind of manager. I absolutely love his enthusiasm though.
VillaChris
Interesting that he seems to think QPR at home first half was our best 45 minutes since he's been at the club. I'm surprised he's put that ahead of West Brom first half (league) or WBA second half (cup). He didn't think we were that great at Sunderland, just ruthless with finishing and Sunderland were terrible. Anyway today I thought was our best 90 minutes of the season or for most of it as I thought we were good in both halves and comfortably saw the game out. It was a bit like Liverpool and Stoke away from the start of the season which shows you how long it's been since that standard.

That sounds like wanting him to fail as if he isnt here then he will be sacked for being shit

Its like towards the end of Lambert's reign. If you didn't see every little thing that happened as negative then you were a Lambert apologist. As usual, with VT, there is no middle ground

DCJonah
I don't think anyone wants him to fail because that would mean relegation. I do think some didn't want him and are quick to criticise and jump on anything they see wrong as quickly as possible.

davemk39
all the lambert lovers need to hop on Eurostar and p/o to Dortmund. Sherwood rocks. hes got more class, personality, motivation, tactical knowledge, style in his little toe nail than lambert had in his whole lump of a Scottish body utv.
