Pitman_Pod
I desperately wanted Lambert to succeed but it had become clear for quite some time that things just weren't working out. After the Hull game he looked completely and utterly defeated and at a loss of how to right this ship. We were more or less guaranteed relegation if he remained at the helm so I'm glad Fox pulled the trigger to give our new manager half a chance of saving us. Like many I was undecided about Sherwood's appointment. I feared he lacked the experience to weather this storm. However, after what we have experienced in recent times I'll take any positives I can and I thought there were a few in that second half performance. Yesterday was the happiest I've been after a game of football in a long time. Usually watching the Villa results in a bad mood for the remainder of the day! After the Leicester game I was purely elated and can see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. Of course the real test starts at Stoke but like a few on here I'm quietly optimistic that we might just pull ourselves out of this mess and possibly have a bright future under Tim. It has been a long time since I had any optimism or hope. I really hope this partnership works out.
Popular Post KHV
Well, its been a great few days to be a Villa fan after the Hull defeat. Finally and about 1.5 years later than than it should have happened Lambert was finally booted and thank God that happened as he was the worst manager we have had since the mid 80's. Read the first few pages of this thread just now and I'm amazed at some of the hate for Tim Sherwood. He took over at Spurs when the club was in the shit, AVB had left and there was a squad full of players that AVB himself didnt want as he hadnt bought them, he managed to get Adebayour playing again and introduced Kane to the 1st team and also that young Algerian lad who looks pretty good. He developed Mason in the under 21's and he is also now inthe Spurs team. His win % was 59% which is better than AVB's and Pochettino's so far, yes Sherwood flipped his lid a couple of times in interviews after a couple of big defeats and questioned their attitudes. I'd rather have someone do that than say we will go again and I thought we were in it for 50 mins after having 4 hammered past you. I think Sherwood is a great appointment and exactly the sort of character we need at the club, Sherwood also appears to be a good coach and works particularly well with younger players and this has been backed up by people who have worked with him. The biggeset detractors seem to be Spurs fans who just had it in for him from the start as they wanted a bigger name to take over as they are generally a pretty deluded bunch who seem to think they are top 4 when they are not. Sherwood gets my support and for once I'm actually excited about my club for the first time in about 3-4 years, his words clearly had some influence on Sunday and I really cant remember Lambert ever having positive impact during a half time team talk. Im pleased Tim is here

alreadyexists Posted February 16, 2015 VT Supporter Share Posted February 16, 2015 "13 cup finals, hopefully 14 with the FA Cup final" can't fault his confidence, something we really need.
PompeyVillan
His confidence is quite inspiring. Not seen that for a while, he has to see it through though. For what it is worth, I believe him.
Popular Post samjp26
Wants us to play on the front foot. When he came to play here as a player, it was a difficult place to come to, and he wants VP to return to its former "fortress" state. Says the job is a fantastic opportunity and we're a huge club, honoured to get the role. Spoke to Lerner briefly, Fox at length. Likes the vision he has for the club, the philosophy this season is going to be very different to the philosophy in the long run (cheeky smile). Randy is taking a back seat, Fox is in charge. We've got good players, good ability, need to get the right players on the ball. He wants Benteke to be integral to our play. Going to make sure we don't drop into the Championship. Not in this position for no reason. Going to choose his team based on what he sees in training. Training tomorrow, he is going to BMH today to begin planning. Agrees with Paul Lambert's statement about 13 cup finals - but says he wants 14 cup finals, the other on being the FA Cup. Describes his time at Tottenham as a success, says he knows how to win games and galvanise players, which is what he is going to do here. Back to Benteke, he says he needs a goal and he needs confidence. However, says it is not a one man team even if he is an important player, but we do need him back to his old self - also says "the best clubs in the world" wanted to buy Benteke after his first season. Hasn't seen a lot of the academy here, but he does believe in giving the younger players the opportunity. Says do not expect any U18 players to play on Saturday, it is more of a long term plan but in the short term we have cup finals to win.

Jarpie
I liked what he had to say, especially the fortress part, and he came across IMO much better than Lambert ever did. We need that cocky attitude and hopefully he has what it takes to back that up.
