Game of cards?

Gwent, specifically?

I'll play you for your Range Rover. In return I'll stake one of my unique cards.

It was a dark blue, 1998 2.0 Megane Coupe.  Well cool that car, I loved it to bits.  Unless Pete means my wife's Scenic, which was shit.

I remember the CD in the CD player was pants and your strenuous denials that it was your special favourite "hot wax". Must have been your Megane then :)

that's probably a better explanation than having to explain what you were doing in Mrs Risso's car ;)

8 series beamer - nice work Stan!

Always fancied one but when it goes wrong, they cost a bomb to fix. I just can't justify a flight of fancy car like that, especially as i don't drive during the week. I'll stick to my 328 for the time being

With the expanding family, I bought a Range Rover Sport Autobiography a few weeks before Christmas.  Two extra seats that pop up in the boot electronically for when I've got all 4 kids with me.  It's far and away the best car I've ever owned, as everything about it is just quality. They don't half shift when they get going too.

Range Rover Sport. You'll know all about faulty electrics pretty soon.

Hope not.  The wife had a Discovery which had a few problems, but the one she's had since has been great with no problems at all.  Another director at work has had a RR Sport for the last 4 years with no problems at all, so we'll see.

Actually, from my own POV it's precisely because I do fewer miles that I can now drive a flight of fancy.  If my commute was still 60 miles a day instead of 45 miles a week I'd still be in a car that made sense financially

Cheers Xela, always fancied one too. I'm fortunate enough to have a newer car to drive alongside my little random purchases most of the time, so I'm not wholly reliant on these wheels to get around.

I bought a '98 BMW 740i a few years ago as a project, which I put a lot of time and effort into getting into top shape and it ran like a dream. I used to prefer taking it out more often than my daily driver at the time, but mechanically it was good as gold. By the time I sold it, it was immaculate.

I swapped it for an '04 Jaguar XJR, which was a beauty to look at, and super quick with around 400bhp, but that cost me a lot to keep on the road (the first bill to bring it up to the standard I wanted came to around £3,000 alone!!!). In the end I could feel that the transmission was going to let me down one down. With the other car being a Porsche C4S of a similar age, I knew of of them had to go. There's one thing you don't want is to breakdown in the middle of summer in Dubai.

Anyway, the 840 is going to be having some work done initially, but I'll get some pics up soon. Here's some of the 740 and the Jag from when I put I put them up for sale though.

Deal for the Quattroporte is off. I arranged for it to be inspected at a garage that I trust, and they're quite confident that it's had some damage to the front end. Whilst it seems the repairs have been done to a decent standard, nothing of the sort appears in any of the documents provided with the vehicle. There are no records at the main Maserati dealer, nor the Maserati specialist that I used.

For me, it's enough to back out of the deal for this particular car (especially given that the warranty expires later this year too), but probably not put me off trying to find another.

Shame though. :(

I quite like the look of some of the small cars out and around at the moment. The 108, Skoda Citigo, Smart For Four.

If you're doing mostly commuter traffic and urban running around they are a no brainer. How much is one of those? Less than £9k? Probably close to being disposable compared with the depreciation over 3 years on something bigger. I did four consecutive days of town commuting last week, averaged about an hour for a 12 mile drive. If that became a regular thing I'd probably switch to a scooter in the better weather.

Can't get away with anything smaller than an estate at the moment, but would happily 'drop down' to a city car when that becomes the sort of driving I'm doing.

I see what you are saying and it makes sense, its just that my 328 owes me nothing at the minute so i'm keeping that until it dies. I don't want to spend anything on a car as all my available cash is (hopefully) going into a second property in the next 12-18 months. As much as I'd love an 850/911/XKR on my drive, It'll just have to wait!

What is this NHS works deal in which you speak of? 😞

I'm not sure whether its through the NHS as a whole or just my NHS trust employers. Search for cpcdrive. Its a salary sacrifice scheme so it will affect your pension for 3 years, if you're in it that is.
