sidcow Posted March 2, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted March 2, 2022 Saw a snippet somewhere yesterday that Chelsea academy has been the most successful in England and have realised £175m in transfer fees in the last 7 years. It can be huge if you can get it right.

FIFA rules are coming in soon to combat that, something like only 6 allowed out on loan at one time, with exceptions for players under 21 that are also home grown (spent three years at the club between the ages of 15 and 21). Chelsea's loans out would have to fall by half under the new rules.

It's a satellite one - our Academy, where out future professionals train, will remain at Bodymoor (where they have a magnificent facility, separate but attached to the main facility with around half a dozen pitches, it's own small stadium, gyms and rec rooms). This new facility will be a building designed to be used by young footballers in the community and operated by Villa as a way of spotting talent. We've stolen and bought a lot of kids from Albion's academy in recent years, this is a facility that's designed to ensure that if they're any good they never get there in the first place. We'll look to identify talent here and if they're good enough, they'll graduate to Bodymoor.
peterw
On top of that it will tap into the vast natural resources (kids) in the local areas. They see this on their doorstep and they'll want to be involved. The denouement is regeneration and regentrification of Aston. it will once more be the centre of the universe.

useless
I read an article a while back talking about how a lot of the top academies in the country are located in the middle of nowhere, so a lot of inner city children who's parents might not be able to drive them to training or aford to pay for transport are missing out. I think part of the idea of this is to a cater for these kind of families as not everyone will have the means to get to Bodymoor Heath... “By providing the facility in the shadow of the main stadium, and also in an urban location that is easily accessible on foot, cycle and by public transport, there is a greater opportunity for those young people who may not have access or the support to travel the 12km to the Bodymoor Heath training ground facility" TRAINING GROUND GURU 3

Popular Post NeilS
Some pictures and an article on the Birmingham Live page about the new inner city academy's progress. It looks like things are starting to take shape now, with the metal framework in place for the indoor pitch. Hopefully some good and exciting years ahead of us at the hands of NSWE, where we can attract the best of the local talent to the club. Work in Progress Aston Villa’s new inner-city academy - labelled a game-changer - is beginning to take shape following the installation of the 16.4 metre-high steel structure which will become a huge dome that will house a full-size 3G indoor pitch. Villa were given approval to build a new academy building back in May 2021 with the aim of developing stars of the future for the club’s men’s and women’s teams. The site, which is off Witton Road, Tame Road and Brookvale Road in Aston, overlooks Villa Park with a walkway also expected to be built between the academy building and Villa’s new North Stand redevelopment with work set to start on that in the summer of 2023. As well as an indoor pitch plus changing rooms and a parents lounge, an outdoor 3G pitch measuring 92m x 55m will also be built “which is suitable for under 15/16 players”. There will also be three car parks with a total of 445 parking spaces. A planning document reads: “It is proposed that the academy will run between 16:00 and 21:00 Monday to Friday and alternate Saturdays, when AVFC are not playing at home. On average there will be approximately 70 players and 20 staff and parents on site at any one time, but this could be increased up to 100 players. “During the daytime week-days the facility may be used by the club as part of its community programme and foundation work, though this is not a regular use. The submitted information advises that the day-time use would finish before the academy use starts. It is not proposed to open the site to the general public.” A planning spokesman continued: “Aston Villa already operates a training facility at Bodymoor Heath which is north of Sutton Coldfield and is approximately 12km from the stadium. The club have advised that the Bodymoor facility will become player training only for the AVFC players. “The proposed development at Witton Road will enable growth in their youth training programme and not provide for professional player training. The application site is more accessible by public transport and is located closer to both the stadium and the residential areas in Birmingham. The academy will be run by AVFC for young people, by invitation. The facility will provide youth opportunities from age four upwards and expands the existing youth offer provided by the club.” In a nutshell, Villa want to unearth the very best in footballing talent from urban, underprivileged areas close to Villa Park such as Witton and Aston, Nechells, Newtown, Saltley, Perry Barr, Handsworth and so on. As mentioned, it’s aimed at young boys and girls unable to travel to the more rural Bodymoor Heath. Those at Villa have labelled it a “game-changer” in terms of helping to develop stars of the future. It’s hoped that the academy building works are to be completed by Spring 2023. 3

Some of those photos in the article I haven't seen before with sketches of the development. They must have been part of the original inner city academy application as it shows the current North Stand. I presume that they will now not include the current club crest for branding either!
