  1. When we get 4th, we’ll be glad of Man City and Arsenal having a whoopsie tonight.
  2. Heskey on the left was clearly ahead of its time!
  3. If Unai can come up with a plan to beat (deservedly) Arsenal at the Emirates, I feel confident he can come up with something for Chelsea at Villa Park. Things don’t always go to plan of course but he has a plan and will understand what is needed.
  4. It certainly made me feel happier about how we will cope with the game in France.
  5. The hilarious thing about that quote is we had just beaten…wait for it…Rotherham!
  6. He had spent 2020/21 in the Championship with Norwich.
  7. I just don’t know how I feel about last night. Part of me thinks we missed a big opportunity, part of me is relieved Emi was on top form. The rest of me is trying to put it in perspective by remembering that 5 years ago we were wondering whether a 2-1 win at home to West Brom would be enough for Wembley…
  8. Wait, they equalised?
  9. Similar to Arsenal in one of Dean Smith’s last games when Targett was about to clear the ball and the striker popped his leg in front of him but nowhere near the ball.
  10. At least he dived for one of them!
  11. The fundamental problem with any version of the proposed new badge is there isn’t enough space above the lion’s head and there is too much shield underneath his feet. The proportions are wrong.
  12. And then we lose on away goals to Varteks! It’s not surprising some of us “wobble” every time we lose a game. The trauma is deep rooted!
  13. Is that the Perry Barr pets you’re talking about?
  14. The officiating for that goal was hilarious.
  15. Also, Watkins wasn’t the same player under Gerrard as under Emery. So there it is again…the manager and the tactics/approach making a difference to how effective the player can be.
  16. Yes, there are lots of people who do the driving equivalent of putting their car into gear well after the traffic light is green.
  17. I completely agree. I always applauded him when he returned to Villa Park.
  18. No chickens being counted here, but I have to chuckle at my own pessimism last Sunday night, as if nothing could stop the mighty Spurs marching on.
  19. I feel about this guy like I did about prime Gareth Barry (before the transfer saga). So classy, an absolute diamond of a footballer.
  20. Where has R.Bear heard this? And why has no-one ever mentioned it on Villa Talk before?
  21. I don’t think that’s right. The roof was replaced first. Then the stand was reprofiled a few years later for the World Cup. Externally, from Witton Lane, the stand was the same except that the grey cladding came down from roof level down to cover some of the brick work. Although I’ve never actually seen a picture from the road side of the stand when it had the barrel roof. Anyhow the impact of that stand lives on. Because Ellis technically extended it, it is the reason the current stand is too long compared to the pitch and makes wrapping into the Holte and North Stands so impractical and awkward.
