FIFA Corruption

World Cup host bids are voted on by 22 people.  It's Sepp and his VP.  IFAB send a member, and VP of each confederation plus a small number of "guest" members of each confederation get to go.

In theory someone would only need to bribe 12 of them to win.

The committee I believed changed after the World Cup when some people stepped down, think they appointed the 1st woman onto the committee now as well

Russia be an impossible one to cancel as im sure Russia would wipe them clean in court plus the qualification has already started and European draw be pretty soon, think its January

Same thing though, unless those people are changed or the current 2 are kicked off what would be the point? It'll be the same result

It needs to be restructured.  The IOC was restructured after Salt Lake City pulled a Qatar with the 2002 Winter Olympics, football could do the same.  Increase the size of the FIFA executive committee, put limits on the lengths of terms that people in the committee can serve and invite more outside forces (ex players?) to sit on the committee in a non executive role.

Neither World Cup is in doubt, realistically. The Qataris won't be sleeping quite as soundly as the Russians but neither is going to be changed at this point.

I'd also be shocked if the English FA comes out of this whiter than white. My understanding of FIFA is that everyone is in on it, everyone is giving everyone else cash and favours for one thing or another. We will have given some for our bid.

The way the us are going after this reminds me of doping in cycling and lance Armstrong.

They're rounding up the small fry and offering them a bit of rope before they absolutely ruin Blatter.

I think Russia is far too close to be in doubt but not Qatar. Its always been a joke having the tournament there and having it played in December plus the deaths and treament of migrant workers. In everybody's interest for it not to be held there.

The only thing stopping Russia being cancelled is the potential financial repercussions from Russia suing Fifa. There are a number of other countries that could step in now and host it, the UK included. You can guarentee the Yanks are going to be doing everything in their power to make sure the World Cup get's taken away from Russia.

Qatar should be stripped immediately, not for the bribes being handed out but for the truly horrific human rights abuses being committed and the number of deaths suffered by the migrant workers who are effectively being treated as slaves over there.

Russia is safe, but we've just seen FIFA totally decimated in the span of 3 days, which makes me think they will be forced to cancel Qatar. Australia to win the revote.

I think Russia will start WW3 if they're stripped of it as a result of American actions. But Qatar just has to go. Not sure about Australia though... Police here now investigating corruption between FFA and... yep, good old Jack Warner.

There are so many reasons why WC 2022 shouldn't go ahead in Qatar:

- Rampant corruption involved in the bidding process and FIFA in general

- Mass human rights abuses

- Virtually no base to start from (stadiums etc)

- Totally and utterly insignificant in the footballing world

- The bidding process was for a World Cup to be held in the summer

There is literally no area where the US, Australia and Japan/South Korea don't fare much better in. We're talking about 3 bids where the host nations have a decent interest in football, the infrastructure to cope with a major international sporting tournament (and a proven track record of hosting them) and no chance of thousands of people dying or mass human rights abuses in order to make the event happen. I'm glad this corruption scandal has surfaced now rather than later because it means there's more chance of this absurd and stupid decision being reversed.

Unfortunately - there is one massive reason why it will go ahead.

££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

FIFA is corrupt from top to bottom - so is UEFA - so if the FA. (Greg's watch anyone)

Qatar and the wider Middle East have so many fingers in so many footballing pies in Europe that a World Cup in Qatar is sadly inevitable.

If Qatar goes ahead, then corruption is hasn't even been slowed down by the arrests and Blatter's resignation.

A country of 300,000 nationals who have very clearly bought the world cup, but the biggest price being paid is by the thousands who have and will continue to die for Qatar to hold the WC.

If we can't strip a country like Qatar of the World Cup, after all that has happened and all that will continue to happen, then FIFA is still absolutely corrupt

Well in UEFA's case they don't like the Middle East money, in fact ffp was invented to cull their money.

Which is now being relaxed - around the same time that PSG (Platini's former club) look to be falling foul of the rules. Platini's son also works for a Qatari sportswear brand.

Clear conflicts of interest.

Platini changed his vote from usa to Qatar at the behest of Nicol Sarkozy in return for Qatar buying £15billion of french fighter planes and investment at PSG and tv rights.
