If you are talking down David Villa you just haven't seen him play.

He is Wayne Rooney, just better as a striker and not so good at the things Rooney do.

Young, great finishing and destined for great things. He takes corners, free-kicks and penalties as well.

Is he as good as Frederic Kanoute?

Not sure if it's been mentioned elsewhere but Aaron Hughes is being linked with Sunderland, admittedly not in the most reliable of sources.

Would be a loan move until the end of the season.

Absolutely no point if you ask me, then if Bardsley gets injured we're screwed.

Blues firm up Villa interest

The Spanish press are reporting that Chelsea have made Valencia a big-money offer for their highly-prized Spanish international forward David Villa.

The 25-year-old has established himself as one of the continent's most prolific strikers in recent seasons and is enjoying another fine campaign for Valencia.

He joined the Che in the summer of 2005 after a successful spell at Zaragoza and has proved a revelation at the Mestalla.

He already has 15 goals to his credit this term and underlined his class with a superlative 30-yard free-kick in the 2-2 UEFA Champions League draw with Internazionale on Wednesday.

His form has alerted a host of Europe's top clubs, but it is Chelsea who appear most determined to test Valencia's resolve to keep hold of him.

Valencian sports newspaper 'Superdeporte' insists that the Londoners' director of sport Frank Arnesen made contact with Valencia this week to submit a €70million (£45million) offer.

While he was rebuffed, Chelsea are expected to maintain their interest in a player they see as an ideal candidate to bolster their relatively threadbare striking stable.

Villa himself, who has always expressed his happiness to stay at Valencia, has admitted his satisfaction at being on Chelsea's radar.

"It is always flattering to know that a club of that level is following me," Villa stated.

"We all want to beat the likes of Barcelona and Inter because the result is news like this appearing."

However, the Spaniards remain adamant they will not consider his sale, unless his release clause of €126million (£85million) is met.

"David is not for sale because we need him," stated Che president Juan Soler.

"Valencia will only accept if his release clause is met and I warn clubs that are interested in him."

I think United are after him aswell, 40 odd million is a bit out of our league.

Prices go down when they relegate, they just want to get more money in to buy new players.

Interesting to see what happens with Carlos Tevez!

Prices only go down if the club have no money, West Ham don't have this problem because they have a billionaire owner, not the egghead. The shit also have rich backers which is why they got such good money for Pennant, Heskey and stuck to their guns with Upson's price.

I can't believe people really believe we have a chance for Villa, not a cat in hells chance as they say. I think with Keane's form improving, i believe Defoe will be available, as he wants first team, though ideally for me would have to be Bent. But the problem lies in midfield, someone mentioned Quaresma, great shout, someone who can do something out of nothing, You've got to remember people go on about his attitude, but O'Neill has got to be one of the best for man management. But its centre midfield where we need that all round midfielder.

Scotty Parker, Kevin Nolan or Joey Barton. That mould of player would be awesome and would allow the Barry's, Petrov's et al to break free from the shackles.

Could add Papa Bouba Diop to that list I suppose. I rate him to an extent and would be decent enough but not convinced he'd be the answer to our midfield problems.

Defoe is a real possibility IMHO. Too many rumblings that he's unhappy and on his way to us and I don't ever recall MON dismissing this, same could be said for Bellamy.

I think the David Villa thing is a big case of mistaken identity. Many search engines such as NewsNow come up with stories on D Villa simply due to the nature of their filters, then dolts in the media and blogdom see the references to Villa on the Villa pages and conjure something from nothing.

While Randy seems very keen to hand over cheques to Mr O'Neill, I think he would probably baulk at Mr Villa's price tag!

Having watched Quaresma the last week against Chelsea, he does look a very talented footballer. However, I think that he'd get on alot of our fans nerves, if you thought Baros' diving/complaining was frustrating then Quaresma is not for you. I also reckon that he'll end up at a

While we're talking about Portuguese midfielders, what are peoples thoughts on Simao?

There's no way we'd get Quaresma and I'd bloody love to have Simao but I doubt we'd get him either.

I was about to say the same about Quaresma, but that sentence appears to have tailed off.

Simao would be ace, he is also a specialist with corners and free-kicks.

Quaresma would frustrate people, but not the way Baros made us feel because he is such a talented player compared to him. Tricks and flair makes you love him, and ignore the other bit that might follow.

Simao is class but he does have a habit of going missing in games from time to time. However, he does hit a mean free kick although Maloney and Young are supposed to be our answer to that particular problem.

Heard a whisper today that JPA may be heading back to River Plate in the Summer? Thoughts?

I heard 3.5m they were thinking. What a deal that would be! Sell Sell Sell!

I've not seen that reported anywhere, but if so then snap their hands off.

It was in the News of the World on Sunday......................... just a one line "story" in the transfer rumours bit.
