This has been coming, they have been spending heavily for the last 3 years with minimal outgoings. Without the dodgy sale of Saint-Maximin to Saudi they would really be in trouble. Not many bargains on this list:785E4EC6-7A28-4BB1-B146-33B83E0C01DF.thumb.jpeg.18fc7c5fff4b3b829fc48b61e9e3ebc3.jpeg9B9206EB-9618-4639-B0BE-A61B3BC93906.thumb.jpeg.f9f3bc69e9bb615d71e16bc562b62063.jpegB9BBB015-C3E5-4D05-A2E6-04F1FEDE82DD.thumb.jpeg.6939108556ef5c116eafe1a83f2c74f4.jpeg

Self sponsorship and some self paying football tour of Saudi add that to selling ASM for an inflated fee.

If it wasn't for all that it would be a points deduction.

Just seen that there game against Fulham in the FA Cup has been put back to Saturday at 7pm whilst our game Chelsea has been brought forward to the Friday night.

We play each other at Villa Park on Tuesday 30th

What have they even spent that money on? As this season has shown, their squad isn’t even that good. Fair enough Guimaraes, Isak, Tonali. But Who else has been warranting such big sums? Harvey barnes?!

Average squad salary is £98k a week too. Madness. They’ve massively overspent on a lot for short term success that is now biting them.

Don't think any of this will be in their 22/23 accounts.

How's it biting them?

They'll get a load of CL money showing next season and have managed to get a huge sponsorship deal precisely because of CL qualification.  Most of their signings have been (fairly) young players with plenty of football in them as well (Isak, Gordon, Barnes, Livramento, Hall, Botman, Tonali etc).  They've completely geared themselves up for "pushing on".

Barnes is 26 though so you can hardly call him young and he's barely managed 10 games. They’ve admitted they will have to sell a big name if they can’t make the CL again. That means one of Botman, Bruno, or Isak.

I said fairly young, and 26 is to be honest.  He got unfortunate with an injury, but he's not an old player or anything.

If they need to sell a big name, it will be Guimaraes.  Feeling up there is that he's been much worse this season.

They’ve done very good business judging from that.

Isak and Gordon might not be “bargains” - but have both justified their fee.

Botman and Bruno have surely increased their value. Livramento is also looking like a very shrewd signing, even at that price.

Trippier and Pope are bargains at that price considering the level (until very recently) they’ve both been playing at.

Only shockers on there are Wood (but not sure how much they recouped from Forest? Most of it?) and Tonali (largely out of their hands due to the unforeseeable betting scandal - and could still come good).

Willock isn’t a bad player at all, and would probably be in their first XI. Maybe a slight overpay in isolation, but was instrumental in them getting CL football.

The signings haven’t been poor but it’s all a bit Martin O’Neil ish a premium for English players. Shrewd business is picking up Kamara on a free and Douglas Luiz for 15m.

Tonali definitely isn't a bad signing. He'll be their best player next season. Their transfer business has been largely excellent. Haven't overspent and haven't gone for vanity signings like we did with Coutinho.

Looks like Bruno or another big name will be sold in the summer with those losses

Or Al-Nassr will prepare a sensational £75m swoop for Matt Targett.

Have you not heard Paul Dummett is worth £150m to Saudis

They've spent 400 million and barely brought anything in through sales in return. It's unsustainable at their current level of earning, regardless of how well the money has been spent. It begs the question what the plan was if CL qualification came ahead of schedule cos there's no way they would have balanced the books otherwise.

despite the average player wage increasing to £94,600-per-week

That's shocking, given that they've got players like Dummett, Longstaff, Lascelles etc who won't even be earning half of that.

What the hell are the paying Isak, Tonali, Bruno etc. Madness.

Hmmm... They've managed to get it past the Premier league, but they haven't received sponsorship on a commercial basis, their owners are their sponsors.
