Christian Benteke

We have got good competition upfront now...Bent, Gabby, Weimann and Benteke all fighting for a starting spot

Don't forget Bowery.

Lambert said he was one for the future, but wouldn't be scared to play him. This suggests to me he's backup rather than competing for starts.

Benteke offers something completely different to Gabby, Bent and Weimann, in his physical stature. Something we definitely lack is height and strength, and I think he'll start against Swansea because of this. Hopefully he'll be a useful in both boxes, and I'm pretty sure his presence will be useful when defending corners which is always something I get worried about (although Guzan seemed sharp yesterday).

Swansea have also lost Taylor, and there defence isn't the greatest anyway - send the big lad up to plough through them I say! Unbelievable Bentekkers

I imagine that this has probably already been covered in the thread, but rather than trawl through the many pages, I will ask;

What is the definitive way to pronounce his surname?

I have heard

BEN-TE-KAY

BEN-TEE-KEE

But I could also say

BEN-TAY-KAY

BEN-TEK-EH

I simply must know the correct way to say it, so I can tell my Villa chums that this is the proper way to say it :detect:

But it's pronounced with the "ee" sound to rhyme with the "e" in "bed", not with the "ee" in "sleep". And the accent is on the second last syllable. So BenTEHkeh.

Good job we didn't sign someone like Antony "Kay" of Milton Keynes - would have given commentators nightmares!!

Not according to the quotes above, it isn't.

Woodward KFA. UEFA have taken down the YouTube videos at the start of the thread, but the commentators on that pronounced it as I described.

I hope we're going to be kinder to Benteke than the football world was to poor Lucas Radebe, whose name is most definitely pronounced RaDEHbeh, and yet he spent his whole career being called Raddibby or some such. (Of course you could argue that as a Leeds player he had no rights at all, but still.)

I will now go in search of further YouTube links to spare CB from Radebe's awful fate...

But they are just commentators! I think the man himself ought to know. :?
