JAMAICAN-VILLAN
This is relatively old but not sure if its been posted yet, amazing stats! Anyway at this point I just want Benteke gone, I want it done as soon as possible so we can supplement our team. The fans acting as If he is the only player in the team talking of doom and gloom if he goes are also doing my nut in. We are building a team of comrades, he is a mercenary and we can't be having it. Wish things were different though. Edited July 17, 2013 by OutByEaster?
CrackpotForeigner
I say we lay off the guy, just accept that he's a mercenary (which we kindof knew already), and keep hoping he's playing for us next year because he's dynamite.
8pints
I asked Ivan Drago what he thought and this is what he had to say So he's remaining quite relaxed about it so I'll follow his lead.

Quite. If he's a mercenary, he'll do his best for whoever he happens to be playing for. That's what mercenaries do. And, as we know from last season, his best is pretty devastating. So, if he stays with Villa for another season, he will do us proud. I can't really understand this desire to banish him to the reserves if his transfer ambitions don't come off this summer. Requesting a transfer isn't a crime.

KjParton
If no one bids 25m he aint going. Thing is though if he does go you'll bet it will be for an undisclosed fee and we'll all think yep 25m and Spurs fans will think yep in the bag for 18m. We'll never know, and it will make me want to kick the teeth out of every spurs fans mouth :@ Edited July 17, 2013 by KjParton

piav_k4
£25M isn't enough. If Arsenal had signed him, he'd had the same impact and Madrid came sniffing... £35M+ with out a shadow.

Popular Post TrentVilla Posted July 17, 2013 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted July 17, 2013 I really don't understand the stick he has got. We buy young, cheap players with something to prove and we pay them accordingly. Should we really be surprised that when they do prove themselves and other clubs come sniffing and can offer better prospects of success and far more money the players head is turned? He isn't one of us and he didn't grow up loving Aston Villa. The truth is that just about every single one of us in his position would have their head turned. Personally, I'm disappointed in him for not giving us more than a year, sure I am, I think he should have given us more than that but ultimately I don't really blame him for wanting to make the most of his career, it is how we got him in the first place after all. So far, he hasn't really done a lot wrong. He has formally requested a transfer and then pretty much kept his mouth shut and his head down, no bitching in the press. That could change obviously but I will judge him on that when and if it happens not before. He has conducted himself as a professional even if we don't like what he has done. Compare that to the conduct of the two faced arse Downing who said he owed us (and did) and then was caught posing in a bar with a Liverpool scarf. Or compare it to the horrific attitude of Gareth Barry when we dared to want his market value from Liverpool, do people remember that newspaper interview he gave? Yet recently a lot of people were saying they would like to have him back. Milner, well he as with everything the lad does was the true professional. Benteke is far from being as bad (so far) as Downing and Barry and although I'm disappointed in the outcome and in him I don't actually think he deserves the stick he is getting presently and put it down to just being a manifestation of same feelings in other people. We all know Benteke is special and it will hurt to lose him especially so quickly and after so many others in recent years. The club wants to sign young, hungry players rather than misfits like Ireland and N'Zogbia so unfortunately it is going to bite us on the arse at times when we really get it right because those players are young and hungry. Still I'd rather have people like Benteke for a year than Heskey for 4. If he goes, he goes. We will move on and in Lambert I'm convinced (so long as he is backed) upwards. So if we get the price we want he can go, if we don't he can stay. If the later happens and he starts playing up, then he will deserve stick but he doesn't particularly so far in my view.
Richard
Agree with most of that Trent and this is where we are as a club. I would just say that I guess the stick comes from major disappointment that it is this summer, next year and I doubt there would have been any issue at all.

I would just say that I guess the stick comes from major disappointment that it is this summer, next year and I doubt there would have been any issue at all. I think a lot of the disappointment also stems from the fact that Benteke is trying to force a move through before any firm bids had even been lodged. I would be more understanding if Arsenal had already tabled a £26m offer, resulting in Benteke handing in a transfer request. As it stands, no one has come in with an acceptable offer and Benteke is actively trying to engineer a move away from the club.
R.I.C.O.
He should be fined for that alone! I'm sorry but Villa have to play hard buggers in this, otherwise the exact same thing will happen to Westwood, Lowton, Okore, Weimann....the list goes on and on. The club need to make an example out of Benteke. If he doesnt return for training tomorrow, fine him two week's wages!

But then that is what players do, not all the time but we have seen that before. For me it is not the engineering it is the timing. Stevo985 Posted July 17, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted July 17, 2013 The problem the Spurs fans are having in all of this is that they rather arrogantly think both clubs need to come to some sort of deal - almost as if Spurs have some right to the player. Until they get over that and realise they are trying to buy someone else's star player who is currently on peanuts on a long contract and doesn't need to be sold, then they're really pissing in the wind even coming in here. Any mention of 'strikes' and sulking can simply be met with the retort that Benteke won't be throwing his world cup year down the drain no matter who he is with. Cough up or shut up. 15 likes for this post, is that a villatalk record? Not even close
