Transfer Speculation (Summer 2013)

Given Paul Lambert's special knowledge of the Bundesliga & the `Dortmund` Project, it seems mighty strange that we have no German players in our squad.

Anyone care to offer up any reasons as to why this may be so?

There must surely exist some really prodigious & precocious potential talents at bargain prices to be unearthed?

A very clever way of trying to get GarethRDR out of exile. I like it :D

Where is Gareth these days?

The more i think about it, the more i think we should try and get Jimmy Milner back. But not on loan

He's gone from being talked of as 'the future of England' to an almost forgotten man. The lad needs to be playing week in week out now, especially with the world cup around the corner. He'd obviously have to take a massive drop in wages though. I could probably just about forgive him for jumping ship quicker than a French captain

10m tops mind

Make it so

Big no to Milner from me. Never took to the guy myself. Yeah he is a decent player judging from his days with us but since then he has barely played. Would much rather Kiyotake or a player of similar mould that is a set piece specialist and more attacking.

Said it before, would absolutely love Milner back. He really would be the kind of player who would "make a difference". Unbreakable, can run all day and all night, can shoot, get past people, cross, play the reverse, he can do it all. People should not let the fact he moved from us blind them to his absolute quality and how well he'd slot back in here.

I have no antipathy towards him at all. He could see we were going nowhere for a while, that the project was dead in the water and when Man City expressed an interest we sold him. No aggro or anx from our board and management, no agitation from him, straightforward trade for a high fee (plus a useless word removed). He goes on to win a lot of stuff by his mid-20's.

I see him as a top player, top pro and most likely a top bloke. Same as Barry. Downing, on the other hand...

I doubt this signing, if true, is Milner. I wouldn't want him anyway. Don't get me wrong I loved him when he was here, he was a great player for us. But he's now 27, is on huge wages (probably) and is not what we need. He's a pure work rate and guile midfielder, and with 3 years rotting at Man City with inconsistent football, I would say he's not much of an improvement on our current work rate and guile midfielder, Delph. We need a creative midfielder and Milner is not that. Plus I don't like him too much for the way he left.

Milner sitting in with Westwood and Delph given a more forward role would be very nice though. Also, if we're planning on using a number 10, we absolutely need a Milner-esque engine sitting behind him. We can't do it with the players we've got at the moment

That said, I'm not buying that we're in for him at all

People bashing James Milner and talking about Kiyotake. Can I ask you guys how many times you have seen this player? I mean, German football is hard enough to get a hold of on TV and Nüremburg is hardly the team shown the most?

As for James Milner, would still be lightyears above our best midfielder and that just shows the difference between clubs at the moment. Sure, going to Man City was a huge mistake for him. A graveyard for the very good footballer with a dull persona. They crave artistry and flair at Etihad, something Milner will never give compared to David Silva and the others.

I don't think Delph has the technical ability to play that AM/#10 role. He is also that Milner-esque engine IMO. As I said, I don't think Milner would be much of an improvement on what we already have in Delph. Also Sylla who did very well in the work-horse type role last season. We need an AM/#10 who is natural in that position, a Cazorla or Ozil type player, a player comfortable sitting behind the striker.

German football is easy to get hold of. Espn were showing it last season when Kiyotake was playing in the Bundesliga and BT Sport are showing this season. One of the main reasons that I would like Kiyotake is his set piece delivery. The thoughts of Benteke having a player like that lobbing balls onto his head makes me jizz.

Milner is ten times the player deplh will ever be

Milner was a good player for us, but no. He wasn't that good, we did extremely well to get what was effectively £24m for him, he is a good Top 6 player, possibly CL player if played in the right position, but he was no world beater. Delph is only 23 and has a lot of potential. Delph will be no world beater either, but he will go on to play for a side that consistently gets into the top 6.
